Happy Fall! We hope you had a great summer! We at CIPUSA had the pleasure of hosting a short-term social work program and another Open World delegation, and we are currently facilitating a short-term disaster relief program for the first time. We are pleased to bring you these updates, and hope to see you at our fair trade holiday shopping event in December! Enjoy!
Disaster Relief
On September 29, Yoshiaki "Yoshi" Inoue from Beppu City, Oita, Japan arrived in Cleveland for the beginning of his Disaster Relief program. Yoshi is a licensed Social Worker at the Beppu City Medical Center. While in Cleveland, Yoshi visited the American Red Cross and the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. Yoshi spent also two weeks with our Columbus affiliate office and is now finishing his program in Boston, MA. Yoshi was involved in the disaster relief efforts during the recent tsunami in Japan. His goal during this program is to explore the potential of social workers to assist in natural disaster relief through grief counseling and emotional support.
