Orascom Introduction: CE2.

1 Orascom Construction Industrial (OCI) one of the prominent construction companies in Egypt and Middle East. It has many projects allover Egypt. CE2.2 As a senior electronic service engineer at IOS, I was responsible for installation and maintenance of machines at OCI at many sites in Alexandria governorate north of Egypt and near by governorates (Matruh west to Alexandria and Behira east south to Alexandria) since 2005 till now. CE2.3 At Marassi in north coast which Nestled in the same pristine area of Sidi Abdel Rahman 129 Kms from Alex-Matrouh Road west of Alex. I installed two machines at Contrack (subsidiary of OCI). Background of the project: CE2.4 Marassi covers a surface area of roughly 1,544 acres or 6.5 million square meters. The total investment for the development is around 10 billion EGP (around 1.4 billion $). International hotels, such as the Emaar managed Sidi Abdel Rahman hotel, afford easy access to the developments 6 kilometer long beachfront. A 600,000 square meter private beach is considered one of the loveliest stretches of shoreline in the world. CE2.5 The towns Marina, an investment of some 1.5 billion EGP, is expected to become the largest yacht marina on Egypts Mediterranean coast. Widely considered to be one of the largest touristic and residential projects in Egypt and the Arab world, Marassis numerous villas were modeled on designs developed specifically by Armani. The town also maintains a number of other commercial and residential units designed according to different architectural styles and sizes. CE2.6 The two machines needed were Oce TDS320 wide format system for engineering drawing and Oce 3165 mid volume multifunction network

printer for documents, then later another wide format system Oce TDS450 with color scanning. CE2.7 My duties during the project period were: Reviewing contract document and make sure to fulfill it. Discuss the detailed room layout, structural strength and the electrical requirements with the site construction engineer and the site electrical engineer. Calculate the maximum power requirement and choose the appropriate power cable, circuit breaker and earthing. Manage the installation orders from sales department, daily service calls and schedule the maintenance visits as per the service contract. Train the machines operators so that they can fully utilize all functions of the machines and can solve minor malfunction by themselves. Contact the Information Technology department to assign IP address and network cables for our machines so that all of offices connected via the network can print directly on our systems and can scan to folder on a destination computer. Arrange meetings with the Air-conditioning engineer and furnished the heat output from our machines to choose the correct A/C unit to maintain the ambient environment for the system operation. Response to customer service call as soon as possible and within time frame stated in the contact. CE2.8 After final approval, I had submitted the proposed room layout to safety department for final check and sign off for any safety compliance. The safety officers visited the site and certified that the site is in compliance with the safety procedures of the country and the site. Personal Engineering Activity: CE2.9

I face many problems during installation and operation periods. One of the major problems I found during installation was a paper jam in document copier Oce 3165 at Marassi site. The machine may come with 3 speeds licenses 45, 55 or 65 paper/min. That machine comes with the highest speed 65 p/min. After some tested on the machine I discovered that it work with no jam at 55 or 45 p/min but when it work at its licensed speed 65 p/min jam happened. CE2.10 After referring to the service manual and from my experience, I found that the machine main motor is an AC one and its speed depends on the frequency. After I contacted with electrical engineer I knew that the site work on generator, so I ask him to get me a frequency meter. Then I measure the frequency that should be 50 hertz/min but surprisingly, I found it near 55 Hz/min, at that point I asked the engineer to readjust the generator frequency at 50Hz/min exactly and the problem was solved right after that and no more paper jam happen at full speed of 65 p/min. CE2.11 Another main challenge was a wide black area in the copied image. After investigate the mal function, I found that scanner cables that connect electricity to the scanner lamps were cut in the middle. Then, I referred to the service manual and parts catalogue to find that there is no part number for the cables alone but it come with the whole scanner carriage including all lamps and thermal fuse which do not need and made it very expensive to be imported. CE2.12 So I began searching in our local market to find a suitable cable material that can substitute the original one with same current capacity and thermal insulation so it can bear heat from the scanner lamps. I bought the cable and metal terminal to connect it as the original which made a big saving for our company and all other engineers have taken the same procedures to increase our companys profit and lower its spending.
