Suspect in Vandy rape case bonds out of jail

(The Tennessean- Nashville) Miles Joseph Finley tried to flee when he saw deputies outside his house in August, police said. But on Friday, police say, he showed up in Nashville voluntarily to turn himself in on a charge he tampered with evidence in a case involving the rape of a Vanderbilt student. Finley, 19, of Bermuda Dunes, Calif., was booked on a single charge of evidence tampering and was being held in jail Friday on $10,000 bond. Police say he and his friend Joseph Quinzio, 20, tampered with "certain electronic evidence" involving the June 23 rape of a Vanderbilt student by four then-university football players in a dorm room. Finley posted bond a few hours after being booked Friday. Police said Finley voluntarily came to Nashville and turned himself in. Quinzio remains in California, fighting extradition. Brandon Vandenburg, 20, of Indio, Calif.; Cory Batey, 19, of Nashville; Brandon Eric Banks, 19, of Brandywine, Md.; and Jaborian McKenzie, 18, of Woodville, Miss., are each charged with five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of

aggravated sexual battery in the alleged rape. Vandenburg also faces one count of unlawful photography and tampering with evidence. All four are expected to appear in court Wednesday. Finley and Quinzio, friends of Vandenburg, were charged alongside former Vanderbilt wide receiver Chris Boyd, who has since pleaded guilty to the attempted cover-up. In exchange for his plea and a promise to testify, Boyd will avoid a felony conviction and get the charge wiped from his record.
