Appendix A Assumptions register

Note these assumptions are used for the purpose of drive option identification only and may change as design develops.
Item 1 Criteria/constraints Main tunnel design general Main tunnel internal diameter from Zone S11 Abbey Mills to Zone S3 Wansdworth Bridge Main tunnel internal diameter from Zone S3 Wandsworth Bridge to Zone S0 Acton Main tunnel internal diameter from Zone S2 Barn Elms to Zone S0 Acton Main tunnel primary lining Main tunnel secondary lining (assumed it is required for this EOR) Vertical alignment 7.2m internal diameter Requirements and assumptions

6.5m internal diameter 6m internal diameter Reinforced concrete segment lining thickness 0.35m In situ reinforced concrete lining thickness 0.3m Alignment to give adequate clearance to third-party infrastructure (including the proposed National Grid Kensall Green cable tunnel) with tie in to Abbey Mills Shaft F. Not less than 2m clearance below existing BT Openreach tunnel Gradient as close as possible to 0.12% (ie, 1 in 850)

Horizontal alignment Tunnel drive length

Minimum radius 600m (450m radius in special circumstances) Drive lengths to be dependent upon the requirements of meeting the overall project programme dates.

CSO connections Connection tunnel internal diameter Connection tunnel primary lining Connection tunnel secondary lining (assumed it is required for this EOR) Horizontal alignment Connection tunnel to main tunnel 2.2m to 5m internal diameter Reinforced concrete segment lining thickness 0.35m In-situ reinforced concrete lining thickness 0.3m Minimum radius to suit construction method 70 degree angled connections are preferred but allowing exceptions where the construction risk associated with a longer connection in the Thanet Sand and Chalk becomes excessive.

Shaft requirements Distance between main tunnel shafts for permanent access Main tunnel shaft size 9km maximum distance, but to be minimised where possible. 15m to 30m internal diameter

Item Criteria/constraints CSO drop shaft size Shaft construction and type 4 Programme constraints Overall duration of construction period Main tunnelling long average drive rates 6 years Programme to allow for initial start-up period followed by long average tunnel drive rates which are 100m/wk in London Clay, 90m/wk in Lambeth/Thanet Sand, and 80m/wk in Chalk. EPBM in Chalk 50m/week. Programme to allow for initial set-up followed by rate of 140m/wk. Requirements and assumptions 6m to 24m internal diameter Shaft type to suite size, depth, ground and groundwater conditions.

Main long average secondary lining
