Happy Friday, As this week ends, we only have 3 more weeks until the end of the quarter. Classes and the course work will start to get a little more difficult as we move forward, so please remind your student about the importance of completing his/her homework. Although a student may have his/her math teacher for support, if s/he is struggling with science, s/he can simply request to go see his/her science teacher for help. If you have any concerns about the progress of your student, please bring it to the teachers attention right away, many times the teacher will have a quick solution. There have also been many questions about the Washing D.C. trip, due to the Government shutdown in our nations capital. We are working with the tour company to remedy the solution. Possible solutions we have discussed are moving the trip to a later date or keeping the trip and modifying the experience. If the trip needs to be canceled, it will not happen till we are much closer to the departure date. We will keep you informed about the progress of the trip. A note from the tour company Dear Parents, We know you may have some questions regarding the impact of the Government Shutdown on your childs upcoming travel to Washington, D.C. Brightspark assures you that we are working closely with your schools Tour Sponsor in the event the government is still shutdown over your groups travel dates. We are hopeful our government reaches a quick solution and your tour is not affected. Like all Americans, we are monitoring the situation closely. The current situation could change and for this reason Tour Sponsors are waiting until closer to the date of departure to make a decision on itinerary modifications or changes in travel dates. In some cases this may be 24 hours prior to travel. You will be kept informed. If you have further questions for Brightspark Travel, please call 877-545-0070.

Sincerely, The Brightspark Travel Team

I have attached information for two great causes, and would encourage you to participate. This years Empty Bowls By the Lake fundraiser, benefiting both CRS and the Second Harvest Food Bank, will be held Saturday, October 12, 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., at Bleser Park. Please take a close look at the attachments for more details. If you plan to make a bowl, you will need to register soon. I have also attached a flyer for an upcoming Oktoberfest Fundraiser Dinner being hosted by the Avon Lake City Schools Foundation. This will take place before the Avon Lake/Brecksville-Broadview Heights home football game on Friday, October 11. Thank you very much for your cooperation and for supporting the Avon Lake City Schools Foundation and their mission to continue our Tradition of Excellence here at Avon Lake City Schools! Mr. Pontoli, our new choir director has been collecting box tops as part of the music fundraiser, if you are currently throwing your box tops out; please consider sending them in to him. The Home Coming Parade this past Saturday was great. The next parade through the City of Avon Lake will be the Memorial Day Parade. In the past, Learwood has not had a float represented, going forward I want a float in the parade for our children. If you have access to a trailer and are willing to have it used during the parade, please contact Mrs. Wilson at Lori.Wilson@avonlakecityschools.org. NOTES FROM PTA The Learwood PTA is having a donation driven, no-frills fundraiser during the month of October. This method of raising much needed money helps us all greatly reduce fundraising efforts and allows 100% of the money donated to go directly to Learwoods PTA. Every student should have brought home a letter on Tuesday, October 1st about our fundraiser and a copy is attached for your convenience. At the end of the fundraiser, the homeroom class from each grade with the highest percentage of participation will receive a Donut Party during their first period. Please consider supporting our PTA! We are off to a great start to the school year and we look forward to a successful donation drive! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either Katy Grove, katygrove18@gmail.com or Anita Jantz, anitajantz@yahoo.com.
