Ng mihi nui ki a koutou - Greetings to you all, Livestock & Craft Day: Who said a little rain would stop our Livestock Day! What a fabulous week we have had here at M.I.S. Results and photos will be included in next weeks newsletter. Livestock Week is taken to a whole new level for many of our students with the inclusion of our very popular Craft Day. Every year I am amazed by the efforts and talents of our students who produce such fabulous items and come up with new ideas each year. Congratulations to all the students, and to the parents who had to let them do it their way. Thanks to all family and community members who came along to support the students or helped out with organisation throughout the event. Your support is very much appreciated. Because Group Day is held tomorrow it has been decided that the Livestock Prizegiving will be held next Friday morning during assembly. Craft Day prizes will still be presented during tomorrows assembly which starts at 9.45am. ANZA Sports Day: Last Fridays sports day, and ANZA fun, was a great success for everyone. It was great to see the students get in behind the day by dressing up in their Team colours and having a great time playing sports all day. Many of the students (and teachers) have asked if we can do this again, which we certainly will look at, although not every week like some have suggested. The feedback from the Sports Waikato and Energiser people complimented our students on their sportsmanship, their willingness to learn, asking relevant questions, and most importantly for me, that our students were respectful, listened well and had lovely manners. The students who travelled to Hamilton had a great time running with the athletes and meeting the celebrities running alongside them, including getting photos taken with Nathan Cohens gold medal and having people like Marc Ellis sign their T-Shirts. (Photos of the day over the page). Sun Hats: All students are actively encouraged to wear sun hats at school during terms 1 and 4. Students may wear a plain black or plain blue hat in any style and these can be purchased at Harrys Menswear & Surf (our uniform supplier). Sun block is always available for students to use. It is important for students at this age to learn to take responsibility for their own well-being and they are encouraged to be sun-smart at school. Honours Students: The end of last term saw Zoe Williams and Hannah Nicholson achieve their Honours Award and their families were invited to assembly to help celebrate their success. Well done to both girls, I know you have both have worked very hard for this award since you started at M.I.S. as Year 7 students. There is something special in watching students achieving success, be it in receiving their Honours or receiving a first place in the Leisure Activities section at Craft Day. Principals Chat: Come along for a chat and cuppa to find out what is happening at Morrinsville Intermediate School, or to ask questions, on Friday 25th October at 11am. Nku noa, Vicky Marshall (Acting Principal)

GREAT SUCCESS FOR MORRINSVILLE JUNIOR BASKETBALL

MIS had over 100 boys and girls playing in the Events Centre Intermediate Basketball League on Tuesday evenings last term. Congratulations to the teams that were winners or runners up in their divisions. Congratulations to the players who were selected to represent Morrinsville at the Central Waikato Year 7/8 Basketball Tournament On 20th October. Five Morrinsville teams travelled to Te Awamutu to compete at the tournament. The Year 7 mixed team won their division, proving to be very competitive and winning their games comfortably. It was a great team effort with some excellent defence and very good shooting. The Year 8 girls team battled well. With the teams inseparable on points at the end, a count back was required between three teams, Morrinsville winning on a points differential. The Year 8 boys played very good basketball but were unable to beat a very classy Te Awamutu side, finishing runner up. Year 7 Mixed: Cailen Calkin, Sam Houghton, Logan Madden, Luke Meiklejohn, Connor Hartley, Vici-Rose Green, Lucy Morris and Tegan Broomfield (Coaches Darryl & Lynn Houghton). Year 8 Girls: Laura Gilchrist, Mackenzie Higham, Katrina Cordes, Ruby Cordes, Mere Wetini, Hannah Nicholson, Hannah Greenville (Coach Cindy Morris). Year 8 Boys: Hafizi Shamsul, Pacey Che Walker, Max Wilson and Daniel McQuoid.
