Maps Steps of Use:

Pre-Travel (Optional): 1. Locate map. 2. Unfold map. 3. Read key/legend to familiarize yourself with the maps major points. 4. Determine map size scale. 5. Locate your own location. 6. Locate your destination. 7. Determine the best way to get from your current location to your destination. This includes determining the safest route, most logical, and most time efficient. 8. Fold map up. Travel: 1. Locate map. 2. Unfold map. 3. Re-familiarize yourself with your desired route from the Pre-Travel step. (or complete tasks 3-7 in Pre-Travel) 4. While in a car, you may need another passenger to help with directions. 5. You need to follow your progression in your route, and determine your location throughout the trip. 6. Reach your destination. 7. Fold map up. Post-Travel: 1. Store map, whether it is in your glovebox or a drawer at home. While physically there, can be a hassle to locate or use. While surveying to determine everyones steps of use, the most common issue with maps was the fact that it was near impossible to fold the map back up the way it was when they purchased it. Because of this, they often didnt last as long and were damaged easily. Many map users claim its versatility to work everywhere, and that a printed hard-copy is particularly detailed and accurate.

GPS Steps of Use:


Pre-Travel: 1. Nothing Travel: 1. Turn on GPS. 2. Navigate the user interface to enter the destinations address.

3. Allow for the GPS to calculate the best way to get from your current location to your destination. This process includes triangulating your signal to determine your location, and then finding the safest route, most logical, and most time efficient. 4. While in a car, the GPSs voice navigation will walk you through your trip, turn-by-turn. 5. Reach your destination. 6. Turn GPS off. Post-Travel: 1. Store GPS, being a portable or an on-dash. If left in your car, higher probability of theft.

Most former map-users came to the swift conclusion that a GPS is a much more convenient method of navigation. A significant advantage the a GPS has over maps is the fact they can update in real-time, therefor delivering up-to-the-minute traffic and weather conditions, which may have altered my route. If a road were closed for an extended period of time, my GPS could recognize this and re-calculate my route. While the cost of a GPS unit could be the ultimate determining factor, its ease of use and portability is its ultimate competitive advantage.
