Message 3 of 6 Generosity Training Wheels Dr. McKay Caston, Pastor of Preaching and Leadership
TODAYS KEY BIBLE PASSAGES: Haggai 1:4-8; Malachi 3:7-12; Prov. 3:5-10 (ESV)
Haggai 1:4Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins? 5Now, therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways. 6 You have sown much, but harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your ll. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes. 7Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways. 8Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take pleasure in it and that I may be gloried, says the Lord. Malachi 3:7 From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you say, How shall we return? 8 Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, How have we robbed you? In your tithes and contributions. 9You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. 10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. 11 I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the eld shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts. 12Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts. Prov. 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. 8 It will be healing to your esh and refreshment to your bones. 9 Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the rst-fruits of all your produce; 10 then your barns will be lled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.

THE GENEROSITY FACTOR Money is not just a secular, nancial issue; it is a profoundly theological, spiritual issue. In face, there are few subjects that have more potential to unlock a new personal and spiritual vitality in individuals and families. In light of the potential spiritual and practical impact this could have in our lives and community, we are taking six weeks to explore The Generosity Factor, a sermon series through Nov. 24 that will help us discover how Gods view of money and possessions really can revolutionize our lives. COMMUNION NOVEMBER 10 Our next Communion Sunday is planned for next Sunday. PARENTING SEMINAR NOVEMBER 17 On Sunday, Nov. 17, Kristy and McKay Caston will be leading a parenting seminar at the Dahlonega Marketplace from 5:30-7:00 p.m. This free event is open to anyone in the community. So, feel free to invite friends. PLEDGE SUNDAY NOVEMBER 24 At the conclusion of our present sermon series, on Sunday, November 24, everyone committed to supporting the mission of the gospel through Creekstone will be asked to make a pledge toward what they intend to give toward the mission in 2014 as God provides. This will help us plan effectively for stewarding Gods resources as we prepare for particularization. Envelopes will be provided. Please be in prayer and discussion with your family as we approach this special time of worship together. CREEKSTONE COUNSELING Did you know that Creekstone has a counseling ofce? THE BIG IDEA: ________________________________________________________________________ MY NOTES:

! ! ! ! ! !
QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION & DISCUSSION
1) 2) 3) Describe your emotions when considering the instruction to tithe to the mission of the gospel? What excuses do folks make for not tithing? How do these passages speak to those excuses? Why might tithing be the best thing you could do spiritually for yourself (and your children)?
