Halloween can be a real treat if you use a little common sense and follow these important safety rules.
1. DONT GO OUT ALONE. Trick or treaters should always go in groups, and younger children should be accompanied by an adult. 2. BEWARE OF TRICKY COSTUMES. Avoid masks that obstruct vision; theatrical makeup may be a better alternative. Also, make sure the costume allows children to move and run without tripping. 3. MAINTAIN A HIGH PROFILE. When trick or treating at night, carry a flashlight or attach reflective tape to a childs costume. 4. TEACH STREET SMARTS. Remind children to look both ways and to cross only at corners. Children should stick to a predetermined route and should be given a specific time at which to return home. 5. DONT INVITE TROUBLE. Only accept treats at the front door. Never enter a strangers home or car for any reason. 6. PLAY IT SAFE. Discard any unwrapped candy and have a parent inspect all treats before eating.
