From The Field..,

The C.B.I, student-faoilty retreat was a great experience as Brother Leonard

Thompson from India led tib in the topic "EvangeBzing Cross Culturally." M March the

staffconducted its animalfaculty retreat giving ns a time to evaluate and plan for the future of C.B.L and other aspects of the work Many of these goals and plan should be in
future issues of the "ThaiLifeBne."

The third term of studies at C.B.L ends in March. The staff along wi& several students are gearingup for a new student recruitment trip for May. Our goalis to enroll 15new students next schoolyear, basically doubling the number that graduate.
News from Cambodia: Recent statistics from the churches there announce that

there are more than 6,000 New Testament Christians in Cambodia! The work began in 1985 in a refugee camp on the Thaiborder w^en the first converts numbered only 35.

From The Family...

Mike and Debbie continue to teach at C.B.L until the end of the term. Lord

wiQing, and if funds remain sufficient Debbie and Ben wiUbe returning to the U.S. to visit family (particularly Marcie!). We humbly appreciate your failhfulness in prayer and financialsupport that allows us to continue with the ministry here! Mike maybe coming to the States this summer for a brief tr^ in order to meet with the directors of the mission to lay out specific plans for future work. The missionary and national leadership have chosen Mike for this task. Pray that the details of this tdp win be worked out We praise God for the recent conversion of a young tribal lady in one of the villages that Mike frequendy visits! A few weeks after Mike baptized her, this young lady was manied to a Christian man and Mike was privileged to take part in the ceremony. There are very few Christians in this village 'v\%ere one of our C.B.L graduates works and the Gospel has not been welcomed by every family. Sompong, the evangelist there, needs your prayers! Again, we thank each of you for your partnersh^ in tiie Gospel in S.E. Asia, particularly Thailand! May God bless your efforts as you serve Him!

At the time ofwriting this letter (May 4th) there are about 10 new applicantsIn. We covet your prayers as we reach out to potential dedicated students who have a desire to
be trained in Christian leadership here In S.E. Asia.

One of our teachers, Suriya, will be attending Lincoln Christian Seminaryfor

graduate training in the f^ll. We askthat you be praying for him as well as his family while
they are separated.

We praise Godfor the short-term Bible schools taking place during the C.6.1. school break allowing some ofus to help lead. Praise Godfor several baptisms (about 13)

Ben and Mike will also be coming over In June after Ben is out of school for the

"Thai Treasures"
Sepiember - Ociober 1995
"From The Field..."

Our second term of studies have commenced at Chiangmai Bible Institute. We

are also scheduling preaching trips to the villages with our students every otherweekend.
Mike took his team to a village recently up along the Thai-Burma border where he and

the students participated in both Saturday and Sunday services. The following weekend we were invited to Thanksgiving services where Christians come together to eat of the "firstfruits" of the new rice harvest, but more importantly to praise God and give to Him those firstfruits. That same weekend Mike was invited to a Chinese village where one of
our former students is working. The friendliness and enthusiasm that we witnessed was

greatly encouraging! Prayfor the work of C.B.I, as well as the workers in the vineyards
that the witness to the power of Christ will be seen through His Church!

"From The Family ... *

Ben has adjusted very well to the new school year. Aside from his studies he is

involved in other activities such as basketball, volleyball, andband. One big event for
him (and Mom and Dad) was his passing the test for his motorcycle license. He now has

his owndirt bike (thanks to one of our Asian co-workers who gave us a reallygood price
on one). He always wears his helmet and drives very responsibly, so far. But continue to pray for us all as we drive in the often congested Chiangmai traffic. Debbie has been substitute teaching at the international school as last year. She

also teaches English and this term will teach "Principles and Methods of Teaching" at
C.B.I. She also teaches English to some of the Asian children. Mike has three Bible

classes this term to teach and is field treasurer, so he continues to keep very busy.
Mike has received an invitation to teach at Maymyo Bible Institute in Burma early next year and, Lord willing, plans to go for about two weeks. He has also been invited several times to return to Cambodia for teaching and hopes to go as the opportunity arises. There is so much work to be done here in S.E. Asia, so pray that we will be used effectively. Thank you, faithful individuals, groups and churches for providing for our needs, both physically and spiritually! We have entered into our 10th year of service with the mission and you have participated faithfully with us! May God bless you ail!

"Thai Treasures"
November - December 1995
"From The Field..."

A special event will be taking place on December 2,1995. Southeast Asia

Christian Services and Chiangmai Bible Institute will be celebrating 20 years of service

inThailand! Everyone is excited as we gear up for a special program planned for that
Saturday. Chiangmai Bible Institute opened its doors to new students in 1975 and in
1981 the first class graduated! Mike was privileged to teach the students of that first

class back in 1981 during the last term of classes. It's exciting to see that some of these students are themselves teaching in schools both in Thailand and in Burma. How grateful we are for the milestones reached overthese past 20 years. There have been more than 70 men and women to graduate plus many others who have taken classes at C.B.I. Most of our graduates are involved in some area of ministry such as
preaching, teaching, youth work, Bible translation and radio. We would be remiss if we

did not recognize your role in providing fimds not only for our family but many of you also give funds for the Institute's budget as well. We thank you, deeply, for your prayers andyour financial encouragement. May the years ahead see much fruit produced in S.E.
Asia, all for the glory of God!

"From The Family ... * We're all excitedabout the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays! Marcie plans to join us again this year in Thailand as we celebratethe Birth of Christ and we're eager for her to get here. Thank you, those who faithfully send contributions each month for our family allowing us to travel and reunite as a family! In October there was a bit of excitement as we witnessed a nearly total eclipse of the sun here in Chiangmai. The eclipsewas total in parts of Thailand south of here. Interestingly, the Buddhist people as a whole were frightened by this "strange" phenomenon as it rarely occurs in one's lifetime. As the sky grew darker we began hearing the sound of people banging metal pots which is a way of driving away evil spirits. Some saythat the blackened moon becomes a hole in the skythat can suck a person right up into the heavens. The challenge to tell the people of this country about
our Great Creator is truly great. But so is our God! May God our Creator and Sustainer grant you and your families a. ..
