Overall wins for Facciotti, Maier, and Cooke at Riverglade MX Park

Round 7 of the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals in Moncton, NB proved to be

another showdown of the titans in both MX1 and MX2. After the heavy rains and
resulting mudbowl at the previous round in Ste-Thècle, hot weather and sunny skies
greeted the riders at Riverglade MX Park.

With a dry track beneath them, it was full throttle for Colton Facciotti who won the MX1
overall on the strength of 1-1 motos; Teddy Maier who snared the MX2 overall with 1-3
motos; and Heidi Cooke who claimed her fourth consecutive Women’s Nationals overall
thanks to yet another clean sweep.

Although Royal Distributing KTM’s Jeff Northrop grabbed the first MX1 moto holeshot,
he would not finish in the top-10. Conversely, Toyota Yamaha Blackfoot Red Bull Fox
Racing’s Dusty Klatt, who went down off the start, managed to slice-and-dice his way
from the back of the pack into an impressive second place by the time the checkered was
waved.

Klatt’s teammate and defending champ, Colton Facciotti, took control of the lead from
Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki’s Bobby Kiniry before the halfway mark and went on
to take the win. Kiniry finished a solid third, again proving he’s a force to be reckoned
with in MX1.

Third in the current points standings, Paul Carpenter, got off to a mid-pack start but he
managed to knife his way into fourth by the end of the moto. With his cousin and
teammate Jack Carpenter sealing the top-five, Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki did
excellent business hammering down third, fourth and fifth. For Toyota Yamaha Blackfoot
Red Bull Fox Racing, it was even sweeter recording first and second place with Facciotti
and Klatt.

Moto two saw Klatt, Facciotti, Carpenter, Tyler Medaglia and Kiniry shoot into turn one
in that order. It looked obvious from the start that the battle for the overall would go
down between Klatt and Facciotti. With Facciotti turning on the pressure a few laps into
the moto, he and Klatt laid down such a blistering pace the chase group, led by Carpenter,
could not even begin to match their speed.
By the midway mark Klatt succumbed to his teammate, lost some ground, and then
closed the gap again in a bid to regain the lead. Facciotti, however, decided it was time to
step it up a little more and put a five-second cushion between himself and Klatt. Nothing
much changed after that.

By the time they crossed the finish line Facciotti and Klatt, who lapped up to fifth place,
had nearly a one minute lead on Carpenter. The New York native more or less ran his own
race in third for the entire moto, taking third overall on the day thanks to his fourth in
moto one.

Meanwhile, Kiniry, who was running a strong fourth until the halfway mark, went down
and disappeared from the mix allowing Rockstar Suzuki OTSFF’s Medaglia to move
back into the position he started in. Jack Carpenter again sealed the top-five, which netted
him fourth overall on the day.

In the first MX2 moto, Toyota Yamaha Blackfoot Red Bull Fox Racing’s Kyle Beaton
shot of out of the gate to snare the holeshot with Murphy Motorsports FXR Furious
Suzuki’s Jeremy Medaglia, Leading Edge Kawasaki’s Nick Evennou, RTR Performance
Orange Motorsports KTM’s Kerim Fitz-Gerald, and Equipe Les Chutes Motovan
Kawasaki’s Kaven Benoit in tow.

Series points leader, Teddy Maier, who found himself in sixth place going into turn one,
piloted his Leading Edge Kawasaki into second by the halfway mark. Meanwhile, up
front, Medaglia had displaced Beaton from the lead. Medaglia soon had to contend with
Maier, however, who was just as intent to take the checkered flag in first. Once Maier had
Medaglia in his sight, it didn’t take long for the American to make his move and grab the
lead.

Medaglia, despite riding for all he was worth, had to settle for second place at the finish
line. Evennou managed to hang on to third place while Benoit kept fifth. Royal
Distributing KTM’s Eric Nye, who started outside the top 10, managed to claw his way
into a fourth place finish.

Toyota Yamaha Blackfoot Red Bull Fox Racing’s Aron Harvey pegged the second moto
holeshot followed through turn one by Nye, Benoit, Evennou, and Beaton. Maier again
found himself outside a top-five start, this time around 10th place. Defending champ Nye
started hounding Harvey within a few laps and the two Americans went at it playing cat-
and-mouse until Nye finally took possession of the lead around the halfway mark.

Once in front Nye stayed there to the checkered. Harvey settled into second and would
finish there; he recorded third overall thanks to a seventh place in moto one. Maier,
meanwhile, wasted little time picking off rider after rider to install himself into third
place by the end of the moto, which was good enough to give him the overall. Beaton,
who finished sixth in moto one, claimed fourth this time out while Royal Distributing
KTM’s Kyle McGlynn cemented the top-five.
In the first moto of the Royal Distributing Women’s Nationals presented by Suzuki, Heidi
Cooke took control from the get-go. The Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki ace put on
one of her patented clinics – as she did at the first three rounds of the five-round series –
gapping the rest of the field by two minutes. The main battle revolved around second and
third place, which went to Denaye Giroux (Yamaha) and Kate McKerrol (KTM)
respectively.

In moto two, Cook again towered head-and-shoulders above the rest of the field to book
yet another win, which has given her a perfect score since the series kicked off in
Kamloops. Giroux carded another second place finish, which gave her second overall on
the day. Rockstar Suzuki OTSFF’s Jocelyn Killough, who DNFd the first moto, nailed
down third. McKerroll finished fourth, which coupled with her third place in moto one
saw her cement the overall podium in third.
