Management

My classroom is one of love, laughter, brightness and organization. It is my opinion that order creates an environment for students to learn. I will have the work of my students displayed, so that they can feel proud of their completed work. Using the card pulling method I will help my students to recognize the consequences of their actions, and they will be rewarded for good behavior as a class, so they will help encourage one another to behave appropriately.

Role
As a teacher it is my role to be engaging, fun, energetic, enthusiastic about learning and loving. I want my students to feel that what I have to share with them each day is something that is important to me and thus should be to them. I want to be the person that each student feels they can go to, for questions, help and a friend. Listening to students is key: As good listeners,
teachers: (1) establish a classroom environment conducive to learning; (2) make better pedagogical decisions based on good listening skills; and (3) model good listening behavior for students. Mary Bozik

About Me
My name is Courtney Kurutz, I am a daughter, student, educator, seeker of knowledge, and a friend. All my life I have wanted to teach. I feel that to have an educational experience that you cherish comes from the teachers that instill their love for school with in you. I love to laugh, have fun and share my love for life with others. I am caring, responsible and a person that others can turn to.

I choose to be an educator; to impact the lives and help others reach their potential.

Curriculum
I feel that it is important for our students to know how to be productive members of society. They should know English, how to read, write and speak. Mathematics, science, history and arts should be taught. I also believe that every student should understand how to live a healthy life and physical education is the best way to help students find interests that will help them have healthy bodies. Every student should have a working knowledge of technology.

Teaching Methods
I feel that students should have the opportunity to learn from their piers in small groups. Lev Vygotsky believed that children learned better in groups; this steamed from his sociocultural theory. He said, mutual involvement in several widespread cultural practices with great importance for learning: narratives, routines, and play. Each person depends on others to learn. I too feel that students need other students to learn. Thus I will use groups, and activities that help the students to be actively engaged in the learning process.

Assessment
I believe that it is important for students to be assessed in the learning process. As an educator it is my responsibility to prepare the student to be successful during evaluations. Assessments will be given in the form of journals, writing samples, student selfevaluation and teacherevaluation. I feel it is important to adjust my lessons to help students better learn concepts.
