Deliverance is often a process While deliverance can be a one-time event, it can also be a process. If you don't receive all your freedom at once, don't be discouraged! ometimes it ta!es time to dig out all the "un! in our souls. #ne session you may address one area of your life, $hile in another, you may address bondages in another. #r sometimes you may have several sessions to address issues in one area of your life. %ither $ay, don't be discouraged. Many times it ta!es multiple sessions before a person is completely delivered. essions can range from a fe$ minutes to several hours, depending on the bondage that must be sorted out and $or!ed through. &ever be discouraged, but !eep pressing for$ard to receive $hat 'esus purchased for you $ith (is blood on the cross! ometimes it may even ta!e more than one minister to bring that freedom, as different ministers may be more !no$ledgeable in various areas of deliverance. The goal of deliverance is wholeness It is easy to thin! of the deliverance ministry as a )uic!-fi*... simply casting out demons ta!es a$ay all of a person's bondages. +he ministry of deliverance is often a process $hich involves more than simply driving out the demons. +here are usually strongholds to be torn do$n. ince strongholds are incorrect thin!ing patterns, this is done through the rene$ing of your mind according to the Word of ,od. +here is often inner healing that needs to ta!e place as $ell. I cannot stress ho$ important it is to pursue an intimate relationship $ith the -ord once you have been delivered. If you neglect your relationship $ith ,od, the enemy $ould be more than happy to begin finding $ays to cause you to lose your ne$found freedom. +he purpose of deliverance is to receive freedom from any hindrances in your life that $ould !eep you from $al!ing in the fullness of ,od's plan for your life and your relationship $ith (im. The four elements of deliverance ministry Deliverance ministry can be generally bro!en do$n into . groups of ministry/ Legal grounds, as many of us call them, are basically things in a person's life $hich are giving or have given a demon the right to enter or remain in the person. 0nconfessed sins, ungodly soul ties, unforgiveness, holding cursed possessions 1occult rings, etc.2 and so fourth can give demons a right to inhabit and torment a person. +hese legal grounds are removed through repentance, renunciation, e*tending forgiveness, etc. Strongholds are basically incorrect thin!ing patterns in your mind. If you thin! ,od is angry $ith you, then you $ill feel li!e (e is 1$hen nothing could be further from the truth2. If you thin! you are $orthless, then you $ill feel $orthless. trongholds are torn do$n as you meditate as specific areas of ,od's Word $hich reprograms your mind to thin! differently. If ,od sees you as a precious child of (is, and you begin to reali3e and believe that... it $ill change the $ay you see yourself for e*ample. Inner healing is often re)uired $hen ministering to somebody $ho has been abused, raped or has been e*posed to a traumatic e*perience. Inner healing is a $or!ing of the (oly pirit and is received as a person releases the inner hurt and pain from past e*periences and allo$s the (oly pirit to come in and heal those $ounds. 4orgiveness often plays a part in this releasing process and is done by faith 1even if

you don't feel li!e you could ever forgive somebody for the damage they've done2. #ftentimes, selfforgiveness needs to be received as the person is holding things against themself $hich must be released. Casting out demons is $here the demons are confronted in 'esus' name and driven out of the person. +his step is $here the actual demons are e*pelled from the person and cannot be overloo!ed in most cases. %ven if you do feel a measure of freedom after tearing do$n strongholds and brea!ing up legal grounds, demons may still be present and need to be cast out. What you can expect during a deliverance ometimes you may manifest a demon, other times it seems li!e nothing happens $hen they are being e*pelled. Mild manifestations often involve coughing, spitting up phlegm, burping, deep ya$ning or sighing, pressure or pain in areas of your body, sha!ing, screaming, etc. If you feel these things coming at you, don't resist them... let the demons manifest and come fourth. Demons may use your vocal system to spea! through you to the minister. Stronger manifestations are usually found in cases $here a person is being delivered from severe oppression, deliverance from occult involvement or atanism. 5ou are often not conscience $hen these spirits manifest. +hey can cause your body to levitate, physically struggle $ith those present for the deliverance, cause a demonic convulsion, and so fourth. If you have been involved in energy healing, ne$ age practices, false religions, $itchcraft, occult, atanism or other deeper demonic practices, then it doesn't hurt to let your minister !no$ in advanced so he or she can have additional support present during the deliverance session. Feelings or emotions $ill often rise up as spirits are confronted. 4or e*ample, if $e are dealing $ith a spirit of grief, the person may e*perience deep levels of grief as it is manifesting and being driven out. ou may experience loss of consciousness or partial loss of consciousness. 6s the spirits manifest, some $ill suppress your conscious as they manifest. ometimes you feel dro$nded out but are still a$are of $hat is happening. #ther times nothing happens along these lines and you are fully conscience. If you do feel yourself falling into a deep sleep stage, I $ouldn't try to stop it... it is recommended to allo$ the demon to come to the surface $here $e can deal $ith it. Demons may spea! through you at times to the minister. ometimes they $ill simply ta!e control of your mouth and spea!. 5ou may or may not be a$are of this $hen it happens, but don't try to prevent it. If you hear yourself spe$ing out curses and foul language to$ards your minister, don't be ashamed... it happens! ometimes spirits can be stubborn and re)uire persistence to drive them out. If the minister repeatedly confronts the same spirit, don't $orry... I often have to spend a little time "ust trying to get the demon to come to the surface so I can deal $ith it. Demons can resist our authority and therefore they re)uire persistent pressure before they cooperate.

Things not to do during deliverance +he enemy can try to bombard you $ith doubt, fear and ma!e you feel li!e you $ill never be set free. I advise to fight those feelings as much as you can. aying to yourself, 7I $ill never be set free!7 is doubting the $or! that ,od is trying to for you and $ages $ar against your faith. 5ou might find it helpful to say to yourself something along the lines of, 7I resist those feelings and believe in the $or! that 'esus is doing in my life!7 It is important not to be afraid of the demons. ,od is much more po$erful, and (is angels are here to assist! We may encounter some strong spirits that $ill resist our authority 1that is $hy $e need to be persistent2, but your freedom has been paid for by the precious 8lood of 9hrist, and $e need to stand on that as $e confront and battle the spirits at hand. When demons are manifesting or being driven out of you, it is usually best not to do much tal!ing. pirits often leave through the person's mouth, and it is true that $e can hold them bac! from coming out if $e obstruct their passage$ay. If you feel something evil coming up your throat, don't try to stop it from coming out... let it come fourth! (anging on to your bondage can literally !eep you from being delivered. It is important to -%+ ,# and allo$ the demons to be released. +rying to remove a spirit of fear $hile you're choosing in your mind to agree $ith it 1being fearful2 is not an easy tas!. 5ou need to be determined to have faith in 'esus, $hich is the opposite of fear. -et those demons come out... let them come to the surface and be e*pelled... don't hold them bac!! "eep your minister informed on what is going on 8efore your deliverance, $hile filling out the )uestionnaire, do you e*perience any uncomfortable feelings, nervousness, sha!ing, etc. $hile trying to ans$er certain )uestions: If so, let the minister !no$ $hat the )uestions $ere because it is li!ely arousing a spirit in you that doesn't $ant those legal grounds to be bro!en. +hroughout the deliverance session, the (oly pirit may bring to your remembrance a past sin or situation that may have opened the door to demons... tell your minister about this right a$ay so they can help you remove any legal grounds to the spirits. If you feel the (oly pirit sharing anything $ith you during your deliverance, don't hesitate to share it $ith your minister. 5ou are often going to e*perience things that your minister cannot perceive or !no$ about. 4or e*ample, physical pain in an area of your body indicates a spirit manifesting. If the minister !no$s $here it is, he or she may place a 8ible over that area of your body and confront the spirit. If you feel any discomfort, pain or pressure in your body or confusion, headache, racing thoughts, irrational emotions, etc. rising up in your mind, then it can be very helpful to let the minister !no$ $hat is going on. If you feel release from a spirit or feel something leave you... let the minister !no$. If you e*perience any feelings of anger, hate, rage, rebellion, the desire to run out of the room, etc., I recommend telling the minister about $hat is happening. 6l$ays try to !eep him or her posted on $hat is going on inside you, unless they are right in the middle of casting it out and you feel it is coming out of your mouth 1I mentioned above not to tal! or obstruct your air$ays as the demons are being e*pelled2.

5#0 are often the best person to determine $hether the spirit has left. Did you feel a release or relief as if something has left you: -et the minister !no$! ometimes they can go into hiding 1to tric! you into thin!ing they are gone2 and other times there are additional spirits to be driven out, but !eeping your minister updated on $hat is happening is helpful. &ormally spea!ing though, $hen you feel a release, it means that spirit1s2 had departed. #ave $uestions% Don&t hesitate to as!' It is important to communicate $ith your minister $hile doing deliverance; if there's something you don't understand, don't hesitate to as! him or her. We may not have all the ans$ers, but I believe it is important to help you understand the best $e can. If demons return( don&t hesitate to see! freedom again %very once in a $hile, a person may re-open doors to the demons $hich they $ere delivered from. When this happens, if the person has repented for any sins committed, then there is no reason to hesitate see!ing that freedom again. ometimes a person can feel embarrassed or condemned for messing up again or allo$ing the spirits to re-enter them. +his is a tactic of the enemy to !eep them from re-see!ing that freedom. I do not "udge or condemn those $ho re-see! that freedom, but rather encourage you to do so... it's your freedom... don't let the devil re-claim that area of your life!
