Council Communiqu
Monday, Oct 21, after the opening prayer, the members of council were treated to delicious desserts prepared by Cindy Ober of Cindys Decadent Desserts. Cindy has worked for 30 years for Publix in their bakery department before recently starting her own business. Cindys presence was at the request of Peg Lindsey, Pastor Ron, and me. The purpose was to explain her situation and request permission to use our commercial kitchen on week days to bake her Decadent Desserts. As this arrangement would be of mutual benefit to a young lady struggling to start a small business and to Pilgrims due to specific donations and property improvements made to our kitchen, Council gave their approval pending assurance by the Lake County Tax Collector that this would not affect our not for profit tax situation. Pastor Ron has prepared a For-profit Space Usage Agreement and Cindy and our Treasurer, Peg Lindsey, will be going directly to the Tax Collector in the next few days for a ruling. Our normal business meeting started at 11:00 a.m. We approved the September 9 minutes and regular reports. Several of our ministry elders were not present, but Worship reported that they will be meeting next Sunday after church. The only committee report that was made was Building and Grounds. Thanks to Donna Fielding, we have been using Chuck, a local handy man, who is saving us mucho dinero because he can do small maintenance jobs for us. We reported on the progress of the Ham & Bean Supper, Trash and Treasure sale, Ad Hoc Decoration Committee, and Susie Patricks appointment to the Leesburg Food Bank Board. As part of their new Rental Agreement signed October 1, 2013 Restoration Fellowship has agreed to mow and clean up our entrance on the second Saturday of each month. Finally, Council decided that even though we are not required to provide Workers Compensation to Mary, it would be penny wise and pound foolish not to do so. NEXT COUNCIL MEETING, MON, NOV 18, 10 AM. EVERYONE WELCOME.

Our November Missions Partner

Christian Higher Education The United Church of Christ Council for Higher Education celebrates the 34 colleges, academies, and universities and the 15 seminaries and theological schools that are related to the UCC by history and close ties. This month we honor students and teachers, mentors and friends of those in schools everywhere and at every level of study. From grammar school to community college, from UCC-related to state university system, from Sunday School to adult studies: faith and learning go together. A soulful education is an adventure to find and share a sense of place with all people in the world. When our churches and denominational settings and related agencies seek trained and competent leadership, we usually look first to those whose life experience includes study in a UCC-related educational institution. Each time our congregation seeks pastoral leadership, we recall the high importance of finding someone who is not only passionate and caring, but who has also received a sound education which includes grounding in UCC history, doctrine, practice, and ethos. Truly, our support of UCC-related educational institutions, particularly our seminaries and theological schools, is an exercise in enlightened self-interest. Every dollar we contribute helps ensure that we identify, educate, and train our next generation of leaders, not only for our church, but for every setting and agency of the UCC. This year, this offering will be divided between Eden Theological Seminary, St. Louis, MO, and Andover Newton Theological School, Newton Centre, MA. Please make your check to PUCC and mark the memo on your check November Missions Offering or Higher Education Offering.
