RULES OF DEBATE CONTEST

for Senior High School There are three points of this page, they are: 1. The Rounds, 2. The participants, and 3. The adjudicator.

1. The Rounds
Debate will be held in 8 rooms. There are four phases of the rounds. a. 1 (one) Round Zero (warming up) Round zero is only for fun. Enjoy this round, impress the adjudicators and intimidate your opponents by debating as best as possible. So, you can get the atmosphere of the debate. There is no point counted here. It will affect nothing but your confidence. However, there will be verbal adjudication and result announcement. b. 5 (five) Preliminary Rounds The first round of preliminary will be arranged by adjcore (adjudicators core). The next round drawing will be based on power match. Power match is the position of each team from previous debate. Position: First Second Third Fourth Victory Point: 3 vp 2 vp 1 vp 0 vp

The team will be placed based on their position. If last debate you got first position, then in the next round you will debate against others first winner and vice versa. 8 (eight) schools with highest victory points will proceed to semi final. c. 1 (one) Semi final In semi final, it will be knock out round. Two teams from each room will continue to the final round. d. Final round In final round, there will be only champion, first runner-up, and second runner-up. Judges decision is absolute.

2. The participants
a. There will be only 32 schools compete in debate contest of the 29th Riau English Olympiad. b. Each participant must enclose 1 (one) copy of student card and 2 photographs (3x4). c. Each school must send 2 (two) teams to represent the school. d. The contest will be school versus school, not among team versus team.

e. The contest will be in relay system. Relay system means each school will have team A and team B. Each team should play only three times. Schools are free to decide their teams turn. So, both A team and B team should try to motivate each other to get highest victory points for the school.

3. The Adjudicators
a. b. c. d. Every school must send one adjudicator (obligatory). The participant must be the teacher from the school. All adjudicators must follow Seminar on Adjudicating in the technical meeting. 8 (eight) best participants of Seminar on Adjudicating will be awarded as adjudicator in senior high school preliminary round debate. They will have right to vote and decide the winner of the debate. e. All participants will get provincial level certificate of British Parliamentary Debate, especially for 8 best participants will get another certificate of adjudicating as the reward of in main draw. f. There will be 3 adjudicators in every room. They are 1 adjcore, 1 from teacher, and 1 from University.

3. The Adjudicators
a. b. c. d. Every university/institution/faculty/invitation must send one adjudicator (obligatory). The participant may be the lecturer or students. All adjudicators must follow Seminar on Adjudicating in the technical meeting. 8 (eight) best participants of Seminar on Adjudicating will be awarded as adjudicator in senior high school preliminary rounds debate and automatically registered as participant of Adjudication Contest. They will have right to vote and decide the winner of the debate. e. All participants will get provincial level certificate of British Parliamentary Debate, especially for 8 best participants will get another certificate of adjudicating as the reward of in main draw. f. There will be 3 adjudicators in every room. They are 1 adjcore and 2 trainee adjudicators.
