Features
2000ms read-out for testing latest delay action RCDs. Fully programmed operation. Accurate digital read-out of tripping time. Two lamps give quick check for correct wiring. Operates from mains supply, no need for batteries. Compact, lightweight and simple to operate. Zero cross circuitry permits testing at 0 and 180 portion of sine wave. At these two tests minimum (best) and maximum (worst) trip times will be displayed. Data hold function, to freeze the digital trip time display, allows easy read-out and eliminates the possibility of reading error.

Operating Instructions
Warning
Do not press the test button unless both P-N and P-E lamps are illuminated with the power supply on and the instrument connected to the RCD (this would normally be via the socket outlet located nearest the RCD). If the lamps are not lit, damage to the instrument will not result, but the socket outlet could be hazardous due to incorrect wiring. Therefore, turn the power supply off and check the connections to the socket outlet.
Preparation
If any loads are connected to the RCD (refrigerator, etc.) they will cause measurement error. To make accurate measurements, disconnect all appliances and other loads from the RCD circuit under test. Set trip current range switch to the rated trip current of the RCD under test. Connect the instrument to the protected circuit; allow ve (5) seconds for the instruments to stabilise, make certain that both P-E and P-N lamps are illuminated. If not, disconnect the instrument and check wiring at the socket or distribution board for possible fault. Disconnect the instrument from the power source immediately if the test lamp goes on without pressing the test button.
Operating Instructions
Fast Trip Test
This test is particularly important for an RCD to lessen the hazard of electric shock. Set function switch to fast trip position. Press and hold down the test button. Regardless of the trip current selected, a 250mA current will pass through the RCD for 40mins maximum. As on the trip test all the lamps go out when the RCD breaker trips. The reading is displayed only while the test button is held down. Reset the RCD and reverse 0-180 selector for a re-test. The RCD should trip at these two tests within 40ms. If not, the RCD or the test wiring may be faulty.
The following table is a guide to maximum tripping times for RCDs. For detailed information on the tripping characteristic requirements of RCDs refer to Australian Standards Publication AS/NZS3190.
