Unit I Key Terms

Use a textbook to define the key terms and write them on the back of your notebook. Frame of Reference Velocity Relative motion Acceleration Distance Free fall Vector Constant acceleration Resultant vector Speed Linear graph Average speed Nonlinear graph Instantaneous speed

Science Question of the Day

How does the type of liquid used to water a plant affect the plants growth?
What is the manipulated variable? What is the responding variable?

Unit I Key Terms

Use a textbook to define the key terms and write them on the back of your notebook.
Anaphase Binary fission Cell cycle Cell plate Centriole Centrosome Cleavage furrow Cytokinesis interphase

Kinetochore Meiosis Metaphase Mitosis Mitotic spindle Prophase Spindle fiber telophase

Science Question of the Day

What is the difference between a vector quantity and a scalar quantity? What is the difference between distance and displacement?

Answer
Vector Quantity= has both magnitude and direction. (displacement) Scalar Quantity = has only the magnitude (number or amount) (distance) Distance = length of path between two points Displacement = direction from starting point and length of a straight line from the starting to the ending point.

Science Question of the Day

What is the difference between speed and velocity? What is the equation for speed? What is the equation for velocity? Is there an equation for acceleration? What is it?

Answer
Speed = distance an object travels per unit of time Distance Speed = Distance/time
speed time

Velocity = speed and direction of an objects motion Displace ment Velocity = Displacement/time
Velocity Time

Science Task of the Day

Get a unit review guide from the teacher. You can work alone or with a partner. You can use your notebook or class textbook to complete the handout. The goal is that you should be able to complete the handout with very little help from the teacher. Turn in the handout when finished.

Science Question of the Day

How are mitosis and meiosis different? How are they same? Complete the diagram.
Similarities Mitosis Meiosis

Science Task of the day

Get a project handout from the teacher. Use a textbook to research and collect information for your project using provided graphic organizers. Due at the end of the class period.
Sketch of diagrams Information about mitosis and meiosis, (Graphic orgnaizers) Rough draft of your final project.

Today is the only in class day that I will give you for this project.

Science Question of the Day

A ball rolls down a ramp, starting from rest. After 2 seconds, its velocity is 6 meters per second. What is the acceleration of the ball?

Answer
Acceleration = change in velocity/time Change in velocity = final velocity initial velocity
For the question
Initial velocity is 0 Final velocity is 6 Time is 3 seconds
Velocity= Final V initial V

time
Velocity = 60 2 3m/s/s
