city of Heilongjiang province in Chinas northeast region. Harbin serves as a key political, economic, scientific, cultural and communications hub in Northeast China. The Harbin local culture is based on Han culture, combined with Manchu culture and Russian culture. This combination of cultures influences the local architecture style, food, music, and customs. The city of Harbin was appointed a UNESCO City of Music on 22 June 2010 as part of the Creative Cities Network Harbin is also known for its bitterly cold winters and is often called the Ice City. Harbin is notable for its beautiful ice sculptures in winter and its Russian legacy, and it still plays an important part in Sino-Russian trade today.

The most exotic place in Harbin is Central Street. As a new comer to this city without any idea of where to go, be sure to start your journey at Central Street. This long corridor of European architectural art is the pride of every local peopel in this city. It provides an enthralling destination which abounds with history, attracting tourists from home and abroad. Nowadays, with a total length of 1,450 meters (1,586 yards), the famous street reflects a variety of European style buildings. Lilac City
Lilac is the flower of Harbin city. There are nearly thirty kinds of lilacs in the world and Harbin has eleven of them. Harbin has several hundred thousand or even one million lilacs, about half of the total bushes in the city. Therefore Harbin enjoys a reputation as the City of Lilac. The lilac flower has four fat symmetric petals with much fragrance. There are very few five-petal lilacs, which young people regard as a good omen of love. Ice Festival
Harbin is located in Northeast China under the direct influence of the cold winter wind from Siberia. The average temperature in summer is 21.2 C (70.2 F) and 16.8 C (1.8 F) in winter. The annual Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival has been held since 1985. Although the official start date is January 5 each year, in practice, many of the sculptures can be seen before, especially in Ice and Snow World that operates each night in winter. influences from Russia, Mongolia, Korea and of course China, the food in Harbin is much heartier than you can find anywhere in China, and stews and other duncai are popular dishes. Because the winters are long here youll find less exotic ingredients and heavy use of vegetables like cabbage, potatoes, cucumber and corn. Chinese BBQ or shaokao and Hot Pot is also equally popular in Harbin and is a must eat once you get into town. One thing you will notice is that people in Harbin love to eat, and its not just for the food, but for getting all their friends together at one table and drinking/ eating the night away. Thus this city is dominated by restaurants with large tables that seat groups of people.
