Bahrain Revolution Museum shut down
The leader of Bahrain's opposition party, Ali Salman, has been arrested and charged with insulting the authorities. The move came after his party, al-Wefaq, opened "The Revolution Museum", including images of what was said to be the torture of pro-democracy campaigners. BBC Arab Affairs Analyst Leana Hosea reports. Bahrain Shia opposition leader charged with insulting interior ministry


The leader of Bahrains main Shia opposition group, the al-Wefaq Islamic Association, has been charged with insulting the interior ministry by the countrys public prosecutor.

The groups secretary general, Sheikh Ali Salman, has become the most senior opposition gure to be charged since the Shia majority began protests in 2011 demanding political change and a greater role in the country, which is run by the Sunni royal family. Salman was interrogated on Sunday about an opposition exhibition which authorities shut down last week due to being illegal and inciting hatred.! A Manama court on Sunday (November 3rd) jailed four members of an Iran-linked "terrorist cell" for life and sentenced six others to 15year terms for forming a cell to mount attacks in Bahrain, AFP reported.

The interior ministry announced in February it had busted a "terrorist cell" which planned to carry out attacks on sensitive military and civilian sites as well as public gures. Read More

Bahrain Center for Human Rights wins Norwegian Rafto Prize


The Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) was awarded the Rafto Prize for human rights at a ceremony in Bergen, Norway last night. BCHR won for its peaceful ght for fundamental rights of freedom of expression

Acting president of BCHR, Maryam Alkhawaja, was in Bergen to accept the prize. President Nabeel Rajab has been imprisoned since July 2012 for criticising authorities on Twitter. Marayams father and sister, Abdulhadi and Zainab, prominent human rights defenders in Bahrain, are also jailed for their opposition to the regime. Read More
