I have some wonderful news for our church, but first I need to give you some background. With the upcoming retirement of staff ministers many have wondered how we go about filling these positions. Fortunately wise people before us provided a clear process in our church Bylaws. All staff positions, except for the pastors, are to be filled by the Personnel Committee. At times the Personnel Committee may invite others to assist them. Ultimately the church will make the final decision by voting on the committees recommendation. Yes, this can be a slow process but we have learned that Gods will is best determined when we pray, talk, discuss, and decide together. Now here is the great news. After almost a year of work our Personnel Committee is ready to present someone to serve as our College and Missions Pastor. On November 16 and 17 we have invited a young man and his family for you to meet. There will be a time for talking with him on Saturday and on Sunday he will share a testimony during our worship services. If all goes as planned, we will have a called business session in both worship services to extend a call to him as our College and Missions Pastor. Im sure you are wondering who is he? As a courtesy to him and consideration of his current church family, I would like to wait and share his name this Sunday, November 10. However, here is some general information. He is thirty four years old, married and has one child. He is a college graduate and also has a Masters in Divinity from Beeson Divinity School (Sanford). He has served the past six years at a Southern Baptist Church here in Alabama. Most importantly, he is a devoted follower of Christ with a passion to reach the lost. Brian Key, along with our College Ministry Team, has led in this search and done a great job. For now pray for our church to know and follow Gods will. Our 1001 Blessings ministry went very well. If you could write down in a sentence or two a blessing you shared, I would love to post these on a wall at Eastmont for others to enjoy.
