Mariel Butler Reflection Throughout the entire research/writing process of assignment one, I noticed many times where I questioned

my abilities, and others when I felt pretty confident about my topic. Towards the beginning of the assignment, I felt like my observation cite would lead to no useful or interesting observations, however after I started going I felt much more confident in my observation site. Some things I did find difficulty in was listing appropriate artifacts for the salon for the first draft of the assignment, before peer revision. I didnt think there was much else I could mention other than the obvious salon equipment. After peer revision however, I was advised to take a more individualized route in the listing of my artifacts and describe ones that pertain to individual actors and their role in the figured world as a whole. This is where the artifact whiteout came from. Another weakness I found of mine was my something extra. I felt a bit lost in that because I did not have the salon at my disposal to take direct pictures of, whether it be to include in a presentation or to use as a reference for sketching out an architectural design of it. My Prezi was used as a somewhat last minute attempt to include something for the fear that I needed an extra resource along with my assignment sheet. Some strengths of my assignment were my observations. I thought that I did a fairly good job of embodying the everyday structure of the work shifts at my observation site. My observations were able to show what happens behind the faade of the chair and I think they also really attributed to displaying each actors distinct personality. I was incredibly relieved after we held the peer revision workshop. My peer revisers really invested in my paper and cared about the outcome of my assignment. They definitely were helpful in the aspect of curing my addiction to parenthesis. By pointing out how unnecessary and immature they made my assignment seemed, I think it really allowed for my assignment to grow as a whole. While my peer revisers did advise me to add even more individualized artifacts that I mentioned before, I decided that I would only list one that directly pertained to one of the actors. I chose this because few of the other actors have a specific artifact that could embody their characteristics and behaviors, and if the did it wasnt strong enough to really allow for a clearer understanding of their actor mentality. I would like you pay particular attention to the areas where I describe the key terms we needed to include such as figured world, discourse communities, literacy practices, actors, and artifacts. I want to be sure that all of my definitions and examples listed for each are strong enough to support my observations. I would also like you to pay attention to my observations, just so I could see if that is the level of detail expected, or if there was more that I could have supplied for the assignment. Thank you for all your help with this assignment!
