Principals Message: On Wednesday, November 6th, Progress Report Cards will be sent home with students. The Progress Report Card is a reflection of your childs development in the areas of learning skills, work habits, and general progress towards the achievement of curriculum expectations. The primary purpose of assessment and evaluation is to improve student learning, and I encourage you to review the Progress Report Card with your child. Should you have any questions or concerns about your childs progress, please contact his/her teacher. Our school is now equipped with an electronic monitoring/camera system. Visitors to the school will now be required buzz in, and as always, when visiting the school, please make the office your first point of contact. Everyones cooperation in this very important safety matter is greatly appreciated! School Council Update: Viscounts first School Council meeting of the school year was held on October 24th, and the following members were acclaimed: Martha Woods (Chair), Kristi Charette (Vice-Chair). Lesley Day (Secretary), Rod Benoit (Treasurer), Heather St. Pierre, Heather Wilson, Elena Kaplan, Sally Mullin, and Susan Sauve. Our next School Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 5th at 6:00pm in the Learning Common. Everyone is welcome to attend! United Way Fundraising Campaign: In the past, Viscount Cougars have participated generously in supporting the United Way Campaign. This year we will attempt to surpass last year's total of $1003.71 by organizing four events. Proceeds from the two Subway lunch days in November will be allocated to the fundraising campaign. During the week of November 18-22, raffle tickets will be sold in the hopes of winning one of two special prize baskets. Tickets for the raffle will be 25 cents each or 5 for $1.00 and will be sold during nutrition breaks. The draw will be made at the end of the day on Friday, November 22nd. Also on Friday November 22nd, we will have a movie and popcorn day. A suitable movie will be shown for primary and junior students. Popcorn and juice will be sold at a cost of $1.00 each. Thank you for supporting the United Way! Canadian Tire Money Fundraiser: During the last two weeks of November, parents and students will be asked to donate their unwanted Canadian Tire money. This money will be used to purchase shovels and sleds for the outside play during the winter. Classes will compete against each other to raise the most money. The two classes that raise the most money will be treated to a pizza party. Athletics: On October 30th, 14 athletes from Viscount Alexander took part in the first annual Upper Canada Cup Cross Country Meet in Brockville. These athletes, coached by Mrs. Brownlee, qualified by placing within the top ten in their age category at the regional qualifying event on October 23rd. Congratulations to everyone who took part! Our next interscholastic sport will be ultimate chicken. National Jersey Day: On Friday, November 29th, students and staff will be encouraged to come to school wearing their favourite sports jersey. There will also be a Spirit Assembly that day at 12:30pm. Supervision of Students: Please be aware that supervision for students begins at 8:45am every day. Parents/Guardians are asked to refrain from sending their child(ren) to school before this time, in order maximize safety.
