HOW THE TURBOTAK WET SCRUBBER WORKS The Turbotak Wet Scrubber uses a finely atomized liquid to remove combinations of particulate, acid gases, fumes, vapors, and mists from industrial process gas streams. Particulate or mist suspended in the gas stream collides with the liquid droplets, causing it to be suspended in the droplet. Agglomerated droplets are removed by inertial means and gravity. Droplets remaining in the gas stream are removed by a downstream mist eliminator. Droplet size distribution is crucial: the optimum droplet diameter for particulate removal is 15 to 20 times the particulate aerodynamic diameter.

THE TURBOTAK ADVANTAGE Superior Performance Designed to handle virtually any gas volume, the Turbotak Wet Scrubber uses multiple stages of atomizing nozzles to maximize gas contacting for efficient scrubbing. TURBOTAK WET SCRUBBER vs. VENTURI SCRUBBER

Not Designed for Gas Absorption Venturi Scrubbers lack the residence time for efficient gas absorption. High Energy Requirement Due to the high pressure drop required, Venturi scrubbers typically use twice the energy of a Turbotak system to achieve the same particulate removal efficiency. Sensitive to Gas Flow Variations Variations in gas volumes have a negative impact on Venturi performance. High Abrasion The Venturi scrubbers high gas stream velocity can cause abrasion of internals.

Turbotak Atomizing Nozzles The Turbotak Scrubber features patented, two-phase Turbotak Atomizing Nozzles. Erosion and plug-resistant, these high-performance, high-efficiency atomizing nozzles feature superior control and range of droplet size distributions. Low Operating Costs The Turbotak Wet Scrubber typically uses less energy, and less chemical and water volumes than other designs. Also, effluent treatment costs are reduced. Low Pressure Drop Pressure drop across the Turbotak system is typically less than 2 (50

When absorbing acid gases, the quantity of gas transferred to the liquid phase is proportional to the interfacial (surface) area. The significant collective surface area of the large number of extremely fine droplets in a Turbotak Wet Scrubber provides a superior removal efficiency.

COST EFFECTIVE GAS ABSORPTION

In-line Scrubbing: Lower Costs Installing the Turbotak Wet Scrubber in-line provides high-efficiency contaminant gas removal while reducing costs related to connecting ductwork. This simple design also features low equip-

ment weight and a very low pressure drop. High-Temperature Gas Streams An optional gas quench stage allows the in-line scrubber to handle high-temperature gas streams.

PARTICULATE REMOVAL & GAS ABSORPTION

Particulate Removal For efficient particulate scrubbing, the Turbotak Wet Scrubber is designed with turbulent zones for maximum particulate-droplet interaction. The irrigated wash ring quench design saturates the gas stream

and eliminates particulate deposition at the wet-dry interface. Gas Absorption When a suitable scrubbing liquor is used, the combination of droplet sizing and surface area provide simultaneous removal of contaminant gases, particulate and mists.

Easy to Maintain Internally, the Turbotak Wet Scrubber is unobstructed, reducing the potential for fouling. The low gas velocity minimizes or eliminates abrasion of internals. The rugged Turbotak Atomizing Nozzles require little maintenance.

Scrubbing Liquor Selected based on the contaminant to be removed, cost and operational considerations, scrubbing liquors include water, chemical solutions and slurries. High-Efficiency Mist Elimination The Turbotak Scrubber includes a low maintenance mist eliminator that has been proven in industry to provide the best combination of low pressure drop and high-efficiency droplet removal.

Upgradeable As new air quality regulations are introduced, Turbotak Scrubbers can be upgraded to handle the more stringent requirements. Your investment in TurboSonic equipment is protected. TurboSonic Guarantees Results The Turbotak Wet Scrubber is guaranteed to meet the performance standards defined when you order your equipment.

TURBOTAK WET SCRUBBER vs. PACKED TOWER High Turndown Capability Since the atomizing nozzles are controlled independently of the gas stream, the Turbotak Wet Scrubber has a low sensitivity to fluctuations in gas flow rates and contaminant concentrations. Easily Retrofit into Existing Plants Several design configurations exist for easy installation. Horizontal and vertical layouts accommodate plants with limited space. Some designs may be installed on the roof of the plant.

Less Surface Area = Lower Removal Efficiency For a given volume of liquid, the surface area in a packed tower is typically 1/100th that of the fine droplets in a Turbotak Wet Scrubber. Packing Requires More Maintenance Packed towers rely on packing for gas contacting which will foul and deteriorate over time. Particulate in the gas stream deposits on the packing, raising the pressure drop, channelling the gas flow and reducing the efficiency. Not Designed for Particulate Removal Packed towers will foul when subjected to coarse particulate loading. They are inefficient for the removal of particulate under 10 micron diameter.

OTHER TURBOSONIC PRODUCTS TurboSOx SO2 Recovery An alternative to alkaline scrubbing, TurboSOx recovers concentrated Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) as a usable by-product, generating a return on investment from its use or sale. The patented process uses the regenerative TurboSOx Amine, a proprietary solvent developed by The Dow Chemical Company for highly selective SO2 absorption. TurboSorb Semi-Dry Scrubber By spraying alkaline slurries or solutions into hightemperature process gas streams, TurboSorb offers high efficiency removal of acid gases such as SO2, SO3, HCl, HF, and ammonia compounds. All water is evaporated during the process so no liquid effluent is generated.
