Positive Solutions for Families is an evidence-based, user-friendly parent training series that provides
information for families on how to promote childrens social and emotional skills, understand their problem
behavior, and use positive approaches to help children learn appropriate behavior.
Sessions are designed as stand-alone units, so parents may participate at any given point in the series.

PRIMARY FOCUS
Identify the importance of building positive
relationships with children.
Discuss the power of using positive comments and
encouragement with children and family members.

Identify the meaning of behavior by examining what


happens before and after the behavior occurs.
Identify the three parts of a behavior plan: prevention,
new skills to teach, and new responses.
Learn to use the Family Routine Guide to identify
effective supports for adults and children in home and
community settings.

Identify ways to expand feeling words vocabularies for


children.
Practice the use of appropriate books to support child
literacy and social-emotional development.

Examine and practice specific strategies to promote


positive adult and child behavior, including:
o Turtle Technique to cope with anger and
disappointment
o Solution kits to teach problem-solving skills
o Social Stories to support the development of
positive social behavior

Share your challenges, successes, resources, and strategies


with each other!!
