Wastewater Treatment: (Selected Case Studies)
1. Singapore
Location : Singapore Water Reclamation Study (NEWater Study), Singapore
The main process : Secondary effluent pumping combined with chlorine dosing and equalization tank; Microfiltration: 6 units of 480S10T CMF-S cells; Filtered water storage combined with chlorine dosing; 5 units of two-stage (49 vessels 1st stage, 24 vessels 2nd stage, 7 elements/vessel) RO trains; 3 units of UV irradiation for disinfection; and Product water storage and pumping combined with pH and chlorine control.
2. Tokyo, Japan
Location :Ochiai Water Reclamation Center for Meguro River Restoration, Tokyo (by Tokyo Metropolitan Government)
3. Berlin, Germany
Location : Nordkanal Wastewater Treatment Plant, Willich, in North Rhine Westphalia Integrated Water Cycle Management :
The flow diagram below shows this cycle which proceeds in the following order: water intake - drinking water supply sewage and stormwater purification dilution and self purification in the remaining waters - bank filtration and groundwater replenishment - water intake.
4. Balikpapan, Indonesia
Location : WWTP Margasari Balikpapan
Process flow: The treatment is based on an activated sludge process. Before the wastewater enters the aeration tank a screen removes solid waste from the wastewater. The wastewater is pumped into an equalization tank which serves probably as well as sand trap. The bacteria mass is separated in a clarifier and recycled back to the aeration tank. The treated water flows into a control tank. A chlorination installation is not used. The sludge is pumped to a sludge tank. Up to now the sludge is then pumped direct into the river . By discharging the sludge to the river the whole treatment process becomes obsolete and the river is almost as polluted as without treatment.
