Students and staff of Arklan School will show their respect and gratitude to those who stood up for our country and our way of life at the Arklan Remembrance Day assembly, which will take place on Monday, November 11th at approximately 10:45 AM. This brief assembly is open to all Arklan families.

If you have a chance, please take a moment to visit the lost & found area near the main office. Its early in the year, but its already overflowing!

Keep up to date with the most current school news and events! Please follow Arklan Community Public School on Facebook. Its not necessary to have a personal Facebook profile to look us up. Well post our monthly newsletters, reminders and lots of photos of school activities.

Please help us make dismissal time run smoothly. Since recess is at the end of the school day this year, students are not in their classrooms from 2:55 PM until dismissal. If you plan to pick up your child(ren) from school early, please write a note in their agenda or call the school before 2:00 PM. We really appreciate your help in this matter.

Since January 2008, Champions for Kids has raised more than $700,000.00 through the Upper Canada Champions for Kids Foundation to discreetly help students to be involved in sports, enjoy the arts, attend a summer camp or be involved in activities that create childhood memories and positive experiences. We also support childrens health needs such as the cost of eye glasses, dental work, etc. By leveling the playing field for our students; they develop a sense of belonging, build selfesteem, develop friendships, improve their health and happiness, and we teach them the skills of teamwork, co-operation and community involvement. Mr. Bruce Monteith, a dedicated volunteer, will be coordinating a Christmas Concert for 2013 to raise funds for Champions for Kids over the Holiday Season. There will also be a Silent Auction on the same day commencing at 1.pm. which will run until the half time break. The successful bidders will be informed prior to the end of the show. If you want to feel that warm fuzzy feeling over the Holiday Season and have the desire to touch the lives of the many children in need Give a gift of Love, a gift of Compassion to Champions for Kids and of course be entertained by tomorrows STARS. Tickets will be available at Arklan School as of October 21, 2013. Prevent the spread of infection! Hand hygiene is one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent the spread of infection. Use an alcohol based hand rub or soap and water frequently throughout the day. Hand hygiene is especially important after using the bathroom, before you eat or prepare food, after touching an animal, after handling garbage, and after blowing your nose, sneezing, or coughing. Alcohol based hand rubs are considered the gold standard for general hand hygiene. They should contain at least 62% alcohol to effectively kill germs on hands. However, when hands are visibly dirty, washing with soap and water is the most effective way to clean

hands. Soap and water works by removing germs from hands, while an alcohol based hand rub kills the germs. If it is not possible to wash with soap and water when hands are visibly dirty, first remove dirt with a moist cloth and then use an alcohol based hand rub.
