WHAT'S GOING ON IN AND AROUND BLACK COLLEGE SPORTS

With three events left on the NEC Series PGA Latinamerica season, former Jackson State golfer Tim O'Neal is fourth on the Order of Merit, the tour's money list. The top five players on the Tour's Money List will earn full status on the Web.com Tour next year. In last week's Lexus Peru Open in Lima, O'Neal shot a final O'NEAL round 67 to finish alone in fourth place at 11-under 277. He shot rounds of 70-67-73-70 to finish two shots behind tournament winner Julian Etulain. He pocketed $7,200 for his efforts. With the result, O'Neal moved up one place from fifth to fourth on the Tour's Order of Merit. O'Neal's winnings are now at $63,015 thru 11 events. He is just $640.33 behind third-place Jose Fernandez-Valdes of Argentina ($63,655.63). The money leader is Jose de Jesus Rodriguez of Mexico ($97,006.25) followed by Ryan Blaum of the USA ($79,390.18). O'Neal was coming off a tie for third the previous week at the Arturo Calle Colombian Classic presented by Avianca held in Bogota, Columbia. O'Neal shot 69-6769-67 to finish at -12 272. He tied with Jose Manuel Garrido and Corbin Mills two shots behind Manuel Villegas and eventual winner Jose De Jesus Rodriguez, who won on the second hole of sudden death. O'Neal took home $7,800 for his third-place finish. He had pocketed $1,079 two weeks earlier after tying for 25th at the Puerto Rico Classic. The most recent tournaments began the second leg of the NEC Series which has been off since nine tournaments that ended in early June. The NEC Series PGA TOUR Latinoamrica 2013 season features 14 events in nine countries throughout Latin America played in two halves, March-May and October-December. In the March-May segment, O'Neal had one win at the Arturo Calle Columbian Open which netted him the winner's purse of $27,000 and a second-place finish at the Robert De Vincenzo Copa NEC where he won $13,200.For the season, he has four top-10 finishes. The next event on the Tour is the Abierto de Chile at the Los Leones Golf Club in Santiago, Chile set for Nov. 18-24.

day to take the East Division crown. The SIAC title game is a rematch of a Sept. 28th meeting this year that saw Miles come away with a 22-14 win. The game is also a rematch of the inaugural SIAC title game in 2011 where Miles downed Albany State, 20-17. SWAC title game participants were also determined last week. Alcorn State's 50-35 win over Prairie View Thursday night gave the West Division title to Southern. Jackson State grabbed the East Division title with its 26-20 win over Alabama A&M Saturday. Jackson State and Southern will meet in the 15th SWAC Championship Game on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Norfolk State injected some drama into the MEAC race Saturday with its 27-24 win over BCSP No. 1 and MEAC leader Bethune-Cookman. The loss dropped B-CU into a tie with South Carolina State for the conference lead. The CIAA title game pits two teams currently ranked in the top eight in Super Region I while the SIAC battle has two teams outside the Super Region II top eight. The top eight teams from the region receive playoff berths. WSSU is ranked second in Region I while VSU is ranked sixth. WSSU, last year's national Div. II runner-up, is all but assured of a playoff berth regardless of the outcome of Saturday's contest. VSU needs a win to lock down a berth but may earn one of the spots with a loss. While WSSU was expected to get back to the title game, V-State has been the surprise of the league. The Trojans were picked to finish fifth in the six-team North Division but ran the table, losing only to Benedict of the SIAC in their first year under new head coach Latrell Scott. WSSU comes in with the league's top offense, averaging 40.2 points and 476.2 yards per game, and the top defense, giving up just 15.4 points and 234.6 yards per game. Quarterback Rudy Johnson is the league passing leader (230.6 ypg.) while Maurice Lewis (791 yards, 11 TDs) leads the ground game. Johnson's chief target has Johnson been freshman Chase Powell (54 rec., 7 TDs). The stingy Rams' defense is led by linebacker Carlos Fields (67 tackles) and lineman

Donnie Owens (8 sacks). VSU counters with the league's top rushing attack (202.7 ypg.) led by running back Jordan Anderson (1,142 yds., 114.2 ypg.) who leads the league with 20 touchdowns. Quarterback Justin Thorpe has completed 61.4% of his passes (127 of 207) for 11 TDs with just five interAnderson ceptions. Jaivon Smallwood leads the receivers with 37 receptions for 562 yards and 7 scores. The VSU defense, second only to WSSU in points (17.4) and yards (303.8) allowed, is led by linebackers Geo Feggins and Brandon Robinson. Miles comes into the SIAC title game ranked ninth in Super Region II. Albany State is not in the top 10. Miles quarterback David Thomas returned at the helm of the Bears' offense and had a career day (312 passing yards, 5 TDs) in the win over Tuskegee. Thomas will likely lead the Bears against Albany State in the title game. He sat out the first game with ASU with an injury. Demetrice Price Thomas assumed the reins and led the Bears to that victory. Antonio Pitts (36 rec., 3 TDs) leads the Bears receivers. Terry Emmett is the top rusher (303 yards, 4 TDs). Quarterback Frank Rivers threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns as Albany State clinched the division title in the win over Fort Valley State. Jesse Atkins leads the receivers with 43 catches for 565 yards and 7 TDs. Phillip Moore Rivers leads the ASU ground attack with 436 yards. B-CU (8-2, 5-1 MEAC) will host resurgent Hampton (4-6, 4-2), winners of four of its last five and one of three teams tied for third in the conference race, Saturday (4 p.m.) in a key MEAC contest. S. C. State (7-3, 5-1) plays host (7:30 p.m.) to one of the other third-place teams, Morgan State 4-6, 4-2), Thursday (7:30 p.m.) in a game to be carried live on ESPNU. The other third-place team, Delaware State (4-5, 4-2) is at Florida A&M (2 p.m.).
