Extrinsic Elements

Element of Biography:
Sophie Kinsella is a pseudonym that Madeleine Wickham started using once she published Confessions of a Shopaholic. Although Wickham had previously published seven other books under her real name, her Kinsella books were much more popular, so she has stuck with the pseudonym. All of her books fall into the genre "chick lit" -light, humorous books about modern women and their misadventures in life and love. Born as Madeleine Sophie Townley in London on December 12, 1969. Sophie Kinsella married Henry Wickham in 1992. Wickham is currently the headmaster of a boys' school in Hertfordshire, England, where the couple lives with their three sons, Freddy, Hugo and Oscar. Before becoming the famous Sophie Kinsella, Wickham graduated from New College, Oxford then worked as a financial journalist. She published her first novel in 1995, although she did not publish as Sophie Kinsella until 2000. Sophie Kinsella is best known for her five Shopaholic books, a series about Becky Bloomwood, a woman who loves to shop but is not good at keeping track of the bills that result. Kinsella has also published several other chick lit novels. In 2009, Confessions of a Shopaholic was released as a movie. In the movie, the main character lives in New York, while in the books she lives in London.

Element of Society: In this movie, the elements of society that take a glamour life style. Sophie Kinsella has brilliantly tapped into our collective consumer conscience to deliver a novel of our timesand a heroine who grows stronger every time she weakens. Becky Bloomwood is the personification of the expression "living beyond ones means." Becky craves the good stuff: Prada, Ravel, Dior and Chanel, but she lives off the wages of a low-on-the-totem-pole financial writer for Successful Savings, a low-on-the-totem-pole financial rag. CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC is bound to make us a Sophie-holic. Eventhough the character of Becky is shopaholic but it can be balanced with another characters which are tried to make her life style more generous and controlled her desire of luxurious things. Claims that Confessions of a Shopaholic is an appallingly timed endorsement of consumerism is a classic example of simplistic and lazy film criticism that makes a snap judgement without actually examining what the film is trying to say. The fact that Confessions of a Shopaholic is hardly a complex or ambiguous film makes this failure even more pronounced. Confessions of a Shopaholic is not a profound message film but Beckys shopping is portrayed as a pathological disorder that, just like in the case of other forms of addiction, begins to destructively intrude on her personal and professional life. This is a film that is completely suitable for the times and its hopeful message suggests that people can learn the difference between cost and worth.

Element of Physiology: Becky Bloomwood is the kind of cute, red-haired, satanic demon inside all women that ignores logic, laughs at the word budget, and cunningly persuades you that those 415 pair of Luella pink and lilac Mary Janes are a desperately necessary addition to your wardrobe: they wouldnt just be a shoe, they would be the shoe that completely defines you, and the world would be a better place if you had them. Anyway, who cares that you owe a small fortune in backdated credit card bills if you look fabulous? Finally a story arises that Becky actually cares about, and her frontpage article catalyzes a chain of events that will transform her lifeand the lives of those around herforever.

Element of Thought: Confessions of a Shopaholic is a good movie and good comedy. Through the character of Becky Bloomwood which cast by Isla Fisher is appropriate and good act in her character. The story is not boring. There are Beckys problem with her shopaholic, debt collector till her romantic plot. Not only that, eye catching about the cast, wardrobe, the setting which took places. And the ending of the movie is also happing ending because of the romantic plot between Becky and Luke.
