org 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time/33 Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We have all seen the shocking images of devastaon in the wake of the typhoon which struck the Philippine Islands last weekend. Between 20002500 men, women and children have been killed; tens of thousands are homeless and without drinking water and food. The situa on is cri cal for them unless they get immediate help. The rst country to rush to the aid of the people of the Philippines was the United States of America. The Conference of Catholic Bishops has appealed for assistance to Catholic Relief Services which is working on the ground in the worst hit areas of the country. We can be proud of both our Government and the Relief Services for their generosity and compassion. I am asking for a second collec on this weekend to assist the people who are in dire need in the Philippines right now. I am asking us all to sacrice for them. That children and young people in the parish community might give up some pocket-money, or the cost of that trip to the movies you had planned; adults could perhaps give the price of dinner out in a restaurant or coee at Starbucks. All of us might do without something this week so that someone else in another part of the world might have the vital necessi es to simply live. I know you will all be generous to this cry for help. I thank you for your goodness to our beloved Filipino sisters and brothers. Please pray for them and for a generous response from the people of the whole world to this awful tragedy. God bless you. Fr. Adrian Acng Pastor whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me. Mahew 25:40

Esmados Hermanos y Hermanas,

San Mateo 25:40

FR. ADRIANS CORNER

The Assembly for the Small Chris an Communi es at San Luis Rey Parish will take place on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 November. Details, mes, etc., have been posted. This promises to be a wonderful me of renewal and refreshment for all who have been involved in the SCCs over many years at San Luis Rey. Whether you are a member of the SCCs or an inquiring poten al new member who wishes to a end, please ll out your green card and return it to the Parish Oce if you have not already done so. This will indicate to us that you are a ending and that you will be having breakfast and lunch (or not). Thank you for doing this. Fr. Michael Harvey, OFM from Mission Santa Barbara will be our facilitator for the SCC Assembly on Saturday and Fr. Ignacio Muro, OFM from Tijuana our keynote speaker on Friday night. Fr. Ignacio is uent in both Spanish and English. Tremendous prepara on has gone into the organizing of this Assembly and I want to pay tribute to Marta Werner and her team of planners who have done mighty work behind the scenes to bring this gathering about. Thank you one and all! The new Blessed Sacrament Chapel will be taking shape soon. Lupe Rios, Linda Causee and Jenny Flynn have designed a beau ful and prayerful space in the Serra Center. The Blessed Sacrament will be in this chapel on Saturdays and Sundays for private prayer and for the repose of the Sacrament a er Masses. Thank you to Lupe, Linda and Jenny for their exper se and to Lee Bickford who enabled the good work to happen! Monthly Conrma on Workshops are happening at the Parish and not at the Mission, as in the past two years. The Mission has become crowded with both the Franciscan School of Theology and weekend retreats. Thank you to Ma Franklin and his sterling team for making the adjustment and working so well with our young people. The Conrma on Program is designed to give young people an experience of Jesus and of the community of faith which is the Church. We certainly want our young men and women to learn about their faith but also to experience what it means to be a follower of Jesus. The Sacrament of Conrma on is not, as Bishop Cirilo reminded us last year, a gradua on but a coming closer to the Lord whom we know and love and whose disciple we want to be. We work both on the academic component and on the experien al aspect in our Conrmaon prepara on. In the Franciscan tradi on we call it addressing The head and the heart.

Our Parish Pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi seems to be a rac ng lots of interest. The nal cost will be available by the end of November when the airlines release their gures for 2014. A brochure will be made available then and the process of pu ng our pilgrimage together will begin in earnest. For informa on and ques ons please contact Wendy Brophy, Pilgrimage Organizer, at wbrophy@ggtravel.com or 858-756-4174 x1702. A pilgrimage is an occasion where one must knock on the Lords heart for the many needs that we have, Pope Francis told a group of pilgrims from Liguria on Saturday. And the Lord listens. He always listens. While it is beau ful to be at St. Peters in Rome and to par cipate in the Mass, the focus of pilgrimage must always be the Lord, to encounter him and to grow in faith. It is a spiritual encounter that helps us to go forward in the journey of life, he said. Each one of you has something on your heart: a desire, a problem, a diculty, something to say to the Lord, he con nued. Benet from these days, here, to nd a solu on to these things and to grow closer to the Lord. The Lord always waits for you, for all of us. The Lord does not re in wai ng for us; he always waits for us. While the Lord may not always oer the solu on for which we ask in prayer, the Pope said, he always listens. May the week ahead be a blessed one for you!

Nuestro Peregrinaje a Roma y Ass parece estar atrayendo mucho inters.

Metas: * El escuchar.
