=OM>*NIONS?I> CHOOSE A RIGHTEOUS COMPANION |H 364 The comparison between a righteous Companion and an evil Companion can be likened to one who carries perfume and another who blows at a flame in a furnace. The one who carries perfume ma give ou some as a gift! or ou ma bu some from him! or at least ou ma smell its fragrance. "s for the other! he ma set our clothes on fire! or at the ver least ou ma inhale the fumes of the furnace.#

He neither wrongs him nor does he hand him over to his enem . 0hosoever occupies himself relieving the need of a brother will find that "llah will occup Himself relieving his need. 0hosoever removes a difficult from a %uslim will have a difficult removed b "llah on the *a of ?udgement. 0hosoever conceals a fault of a %uslim will have his faults concealed b "llah on the *a of ?udgement.)

ENVY |H 536 *o not env each other. *o not inflate the bidding at auctions! do not bear a grudge! do not turn awa from each other! and do not make an offer during 7another&s8 pending transaction. $e worshipers of "llah! brothers to each other. %uslims are brothers to each other. He neither wrongs him! looks down upon him! nor humiliates him. 'iet is a matter of the heart.) He repeated this thrice. 6t is evil for a person to look down upon his %uslim brother. ;ver thing belonging to a %uslim is forbidden to another %uslim< his blood! propert ! and his honor.)

PREVENT ONE ANOTHER FROM WRONGDOING |H 53Do to the help of our brother even if he does wrong or is wronged. " Companion asked! /4 %essenger of "llah! praise and peace be upon him! 6 can help him if he is wronged! but tell me how can 6 help him if he does wrong12 He answered! /'revent him from doing what is wrong< that is helping him.2

There are five obligations owed b a %uslim to another@ the return of his greeting! visiting him in sickness! attending his funeral! accepting his invitation! and sa ing! &%a "llah have merc on ou& after he has said! &"ll praise is due to "llah& when he sneeEed. 6n another narration@ #There are siF obligations owed b one %uslim to another. Gpon meeting him he sa s! &'eace be upon ou.& 0hen he invites ou accept the invitation. 0hen he asks our advice ou advise him! 0hen he sneeEes and praises "llah! sa to him! &%a "llah have merc on ou.& 0hen he is sick ou visit him. 0hen he dies ou attend his funeral.#

SEVEN IMPORTANT THINGS |H 54B The %essenger of "llah! praise and peace be upon him! en9oined seven things upon us and forbade seven. He ordered us to@ Hisit the sick. "ttend the funeral. 6nvoke the %erc of "llah on one who sneeEes. Iulfill promises. Help those who are wronged. "ccept an invitation. 6ncrease the greeting of peace. He forbade us to@ 0ear gold rings 7men8. *rink from silver vessels. +it on red silk cushioned saddles. 0ear garments made from a miFture of silk and cotton arn. 0ear pure silk. "llah will conceal the shortcomings of those who conceal the shortcomings of another in this world.)

IMPORTANCE OF CONCEALING THE SHORTCOMINGS OF OTHERS |H 545 ;ver one in m nation will be forgiven eFcept those who eFpose the shortcomings of others. ;Fposure includes the person who discloses his own shortcoming committed during the night which "llah had concealed. 6n the morning he sa s! /+o and so! 6 did such a thing last night.2 *uring the night "llah concealed it et in the morning he himself disclosed it.)

DO NO HELP SATAN, THE STONED AND CURSED |H 544 " drunkard was brought to the 'rophet! praise and peace be upon him! and he said! /$eat him.2 +ome of us beat him with our hands! others with shoes! and some with pieces of cloth. 0hen he returned to his people someone said! /%a "llah disgrace ouK2 The 'rophet! praise and peace be upon him! said! /*o not help satan against him b sa ing such words.2#

?EL>IN" ONE *NO!?ER Allah, the Exalted says: *orshi$ yo#r Lord, and do %ood, in order that yo# $ros$er. 22:00 !oran BLESSINGS |H 546 He who removes a burden from a believer in this world will have his burden removed b "llah on the *a of ?udgement. 0hosoever eases the hardship of another! will be given ease b "llah in this world and in the ;verlasting Cife. 0hosoever conceals the faults of a %uslim will have his faults concealed in this world and in the ;verlasting Cife. "llah continues to help a worshiper as long as he continues helping his brother. 0hosoever treads a path in search of knowledge! his path to 'aradise is made eas for him b "llah. 0henever people gather in a House of "llah to read the $ook of "llah and share its reading between them! peace descends upon them! and merc covers them. The angels outspread their wings over them and "llah mentions them to those around Him. 0hosoever is slow in 7good8 behavior will not have his deficienc made good because of the nobilit of his birth.)

The better of them is the one who greets the other first.)

SATAN TRIES TO BRING DISCORD THROUGH LAC& OF COMMUNICATION |H 3636 satan has despaired of %uslims worshiping him in the "rabian 'eninsula! so he tries to bring about discord and lack of communication between them.#

MERIT OF RECONCILIATION |H 363. 6t is not permissible for a believer to sta awa from a believer for more than three da s. "fter the lapse of this period! he should go! meet him and greet him. 6f he returns the greeting the will both share the merit of reconciliation. 6f he does not return the greeting he will be guilt of sin and the former will be ac=uitted of the responsibilit for the separation between them.)

He neither wrongs nor humiliates him! nor does he look down upon him. 'ointing to his chest he said! /'iet dwells here! piet dwells here.2# 0e are also informed@ 6t is enough evil for a %uslim to look at his brother with disdain. ;ver thing that belongs to a %uslim is forbidden to another %uslim! his blood! his honor and his propert .) 0e are also informed@ "llah does not look to our bodies or to our features or even to our deeds! He looks at our heart.) 0e are also informed@ *o not harbor env or illLwill and do not sp or search for faults! neither make artificial bids rather! be worshipers of "llah! brothers to each other.) 0e are also informed@ >either sever relations! be indifferent! entertain illLwill or env . $e worshipers of "llah! brothers to each other.) 0e are also informed@ *o not bo cott each other nor spoil another&s deal.)

E'LUDING THE THIRD PARTY IN A CONVERSATION |H 3643 6bn 4mar and "bdullah! the son of *inar were together in the house of ,halid! the son of Gkbah! when a man came to consult with the son of 4mar. "s 6 7"bdullah8 was the onl other person present! the son of 4mar called another man in! which made us four and said to the two of us! /%ove awa a little! because 6 heard the %essenger of "llah! praise and peace be upon him! sa ! /Two should not speak confidentiall together and eFclude the third.2#
%alik narrated in his %utawatir that "bdullah the son of *inar related that the %essenger of "llah! praise and peace be upon him! said this.

CONFIDENTIALITY |H 3645 6n the event there are onl three of ou! two should not speak confidentiall until our number increases! in case the third part becomes saddened.)

ACT &INDLY |H 5:3 The 'rophet! praise and peace be upon him! heard two men debating loudl with one another outside his door. 4ne of them begged the other to agree to reduce the amount of the debt he owed him and to deal kindl with him. The other said! #$ "llah! 6 shall not do it.# The 'rophet! praise and peace be upon him! went out to them and asked! /0hich one of ou is it who swears b "llah that he will not act kindl 12 The man said! /6t is 6! 4 %essenger of "llah! praise

IMPORTANCE OF FULFILLING ONE(S OBLIGATIONS |H 533 6f a %uslim has an obligation towards his brother concerning his honor or something else! let him fulfill it toda before a time comes when he has neither dinars nor dirhams. $ecause! if he does not do so! and he has ac=uired some good deeds! a proportion of those good deeds will be taken from him e=ual to his obligation. However! if he does not have an good deeds he will be burdened proportionatel with the evil deeds of the person whom he wronged.)

CHARACTERISTICS OF A MUSLIM |H 535 " %uslim is one who does not harm another %uslim b his tongue or hands. " migrant is one who abandons that which "llah has forbidden.)

"bu +a&id ,hudri said that while the were on a 9ourne with the 'rophet! praise and peace be upon him! a man came riding his mount and began looking right and left! whereupon the 'rophet! praise and peace be upon him! said! /0hoever can spare a mount should offer it to the one who has none! and whoever has food to spare should offer it to the one who has none.2 He continued to mentioning ever kind of provision until we thought none of us had an right to an thing in eFcess of our needs.)
