SYRIAN OPPOSITION SUPPORTS TRANSITION ROADMAP IN ISTANBUL

Washington, DC On November 10, 2013, Syrian Center for Political and Strategic Studies (SCPSS) Executive Director Dr. Radwan Ziadeh was invited by the General Assembly of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces to travel to Istanbul, Turkey and give a presentation on Syria Transition Roadmap, a document recently published by SCPSS and the Syrian Expert House detailing the Syrian oppositions vision of the post-Assad democratic transition in Syria.

and administrative reform, electoral reform, security sector reform, economic reform, and transitional justice and national reconciliation, Dr. Ziadeh led a positive and engaging discussion on means for implementing the recommendations in the report. Coalition members were particularly interested in the immediate implementation of the recommendations on transitional justice and security sector reform. Such was the level of the support of the roadmap, one opposition member suggested widely disseminating the report across all of Syria.

Syria Transition Roadmap is the result of a year-long consensus-building research process conducted by the Syrian Expert House, a group of approximately 300 Syrian human rights activists, academics, judges, lawyers, leaders of the political opposition, defected government ofcials, defected military ofcers, members of local revolutionary councils, and commanders of the armed opposition.
