2. Scope Statement
2.1 Background
The idea Broward College was first realized in 1957, it was originally named Broward Junior
College. Initially the college was part of a network of a two- year colleges where residents of
Florida could earn an undergraduate degree. On March, 17, 1960 Broward Junior College opened
its doors with a class of 701 students. The first President of the college was Dr. Joe Rushing. On
May 28, 2008 the college changed its name from Broward Community College to Broward
College as it started to offer a baccalaureate program. Broward College has been serving the
Broward County area for about a half century. It continues to grow and expand from the original
701 students to 67,000 students with about 2000 faculty and staff members.

2.2. Scope
Page
4

Identify the benefits of Broward College (North Campus) reducing its carbon foot
print.
Research the best company to install and maintain the Windmill.
Reduce the money it takes to provide power for the campus.

2.3 Out of Scope

Other campuses are not part of this project
No structural change of buildings
No effect on students or factuality

2.4 Assumptions

Enough space for Windmill

Luther College as proxy
Enough money for project
Long term benefit (20-30 years)

2.5 Constraints
Zoning Weather or not the city of Coconut Creek would permit it or not.
Time Like most projects we will need to know how much time it would take as to
ensure proper schedule deadlines.
Training We will need to hire a professional technician to maintain the turbine, this
would not be done by building maintenance.
Energy production The amount of energy that is produced by the Windmill.
