Thanksgiving Fraction Ideas!

By: Ashley Reed (Just Reed!)

Thanksgiving has been the perfect time to brush up on our fraction skills. We made Fat Turkey Fractions by stuffing a brown lunch bag with paper and attaching a beak, googly eyes and waddle to the front. Then, students reached inside a brown bag and randomly drew out 6 feathers. (I had placed several different colors inside). Students had to write the fraction that matched that color. Then, they attached the feather to the back of their turkey. They loved this! Following are pictures of the project and some free templates.

We also made Thanksgiving Pie Fractions. Simply cut a paper plate into whatever number of pieces you wish to and have students decorate each piece to look like either a Pumpkin Pie, Apple Pie, or Pecan Pie. Then, students use the recording page to write in the fractions.
