Hardwickisavillageinthecountyof Cambridgeshire,Englandwithalargehousingestate locatedabout6miles(9.7km)westofthecityof CambridgeandimmediatelysouthoftheA428 CambridgeStNeotsroad.Itisabout4miles(6.4km) eastofthenewlydevelopedvillageofCambourne. TheVillageisnearlyontheGreenwichMeridian.The northernborderofthevillageisStNeotsRoad,now largelybypassedbytheA428,withnohousesor propertyonthenorthsideoftheroad.Inthe2001 census,thepopulationwas2630in946households. Historically,thevillageofHardwickishundredsof yearsold[citationneeded]andconsistedofafewhouses andfarmlandaroundStMary'sChurch,onwhatis nowthesouthernedgeofthevillage.Ithasexpanded greatlyoverthelastfortyyears,mainlyduetoanestate ofhundredsofhousesbuiltontheorchardlandtothe northoftheoriginalvillage,withtheroadstakingthe namesofthedisplacedtrees(e.g.Ellison,Bramley, Limes,Pippin,Quince,Worcester...). Althoughsignificantbuildingceased,anumberofnew houseshavebeenbuiltovertheyearsalloverthe villagewhereverdeveloperswereabletoacquireany plotsoflandtheseareoftentheoncelargegardensof theearliestestatehouses. Thevillagehasmainsgas,sewageandwaterformost residents,thoughsomenotonthemainestatearenot onmainsgas.Therearetwositeswiththeoriginal waterpumps,onenearthechurchandtheotherquite centralinthevillagejustoffPumpLane. Thevillage'sbakerywassitednexttoarowofhouses justtotheeastofthepubattheendclosesttothe church,andtheonlyremnantistheshellofthe buildingwhichhasbecomeagarage. TheBlueLion,theonlypubinthevillage,lieson MainStreet.TheSportsandSocialClubisbasednext tothefootballandcricketpitchesinthecentreofthe village.
