Canyon View Elementary Recognized as a 2013 National Center for Educational

Achievement Higher Performing School

Recognition as a NCEA Higher Performing School indicates a schools deep commitment to raising student
achievement and putting more students on the path to college and career readinessregardless of socio-economic
barriers or any other obstacles that might otherwise impede success. These schools stand out as shining examples
of what can be achieved when staff, students and parents work together toward a unified goal of better preparing
students for life after high school.
Reading: Growth Measure
Science: Growth Measure
NCEA identifies Higher Performing Schools based on one or both of two measures: 1) consistent improvement in
student achievement from previous years (growth), and/or 2) an above-predicted percentage of continuously en-
rolled students scoring at the Exceeds level on Arizonas Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS).
NCEA began identifying Higher Performing Schools in 1998 and continues to annually release these lists as well
as College and Career Readiness Charts for every public school in Arizona.

Canyon View Elementary Recognized By
Arizona Department of Education
This week, Canyon View Elementary received the Arizona Department of Education Reward School la-
bel for 2013. Reward Schools are the Title 1 schools that Arizona commends for high academic per-
formance or high levels of student growth. The state will select two schools to represent AZ in San Di-
ego in February. The ADE is reviewing the data and conducting site visits to select those two schools.

Notication of Pest Control
State Law (House Bill 2135, Chapter 102) requires the school district to notify
parents, legal guardians, and employees 48 hours prior to pest/weed control
treatments.
In accordance with these requirements, Essential Pest, vendor for pesticide
treatment, will visit our school once month to inspect building exteriors, kitchen
areas, and restrooms, and to perform pest control treatments of those areas, as
required. Our current pest control program does not include pesticide
applications inside classrooms. Such applications are performed only if infestation
occurs. Essential Pest will treat Canyon View on the third Tuesday of each month.
Additional information may be obtained from the Environmental Health and Safety
Ofce at the district ofce at 299-6446.
