Bags the exclusive distribution rights in Malaysia for the Tamil blockbuster movie ‘SHIVAJI’
Kuala Lumpur, April 12,2007: Pyramid Saimira Theatre Chain (M) Sdn. Bhd Theatre Limited (PSTL),
leading digital theatre chain announced RM 10 Million investment plans to digitalize about 50 Theatre
Screens in Malaysia, in next 60 days. The company also plans to produce their first ever Malay
language film ‘Berikan Hatimu’, in Malay language, which will feature leading Malaysian film
personalities. This romantic comedy movie will hit the silver screens by September 2007.The
production of this movie will begin by June 07. The company also announced that they will be
producing first Tamil film fully in Malaysia for international release.
Mr. V. Natrajan, Chairman, Pyramid Saimira Theatre Ltd, India said, “We are all set to create
history as we have finalized to produce the first Tamil movie to be fully produced in Malaysia. In this
movie only the Hero will be from India whereas the rest of the film crew would be Malaysians. This
movie would be released simultaneously in Malaysia and the rest of the world. The work on this film
will begin in the month of June 2007.
“We have been expanding rapidly in the recent past. We are in talks with the Chinese Film industry
also; to produce and distribute Chinese Movies, along with Malaysian produced Malay & Tamil films.
We have received some excellent proposals on the same, and are hopeful to commence operations
by the July 2007. Our first Chinese Film will hit the Silver Screens by the December 2007,” Said Mr.
Pari, Chairman, and PSTL Malaysia.
Addressing the media, Mr. P.S. Saminathan, MD, Pyramid Saimira Theatre Limited, India & director in
Pyramid Saimira Malaysia said this step creates a paradigm shift in the way entertainment industry
structure will be viewed in Malaysia and this is the first time an Indian business model and modus
operandi is being taken outside India at such a large scale for Films and entertainment sector. We
believe that this company shall focus on the whole gamut of the entertainment including local content
development. Further digital cinema will take films to all neighborhood regions thereby improve the
collection of local Malay & Chinese language films. This move will also drastically reduce the piracy
which is very prevalent and is eating away lot of revenues”
FILM SHIVAJI: Film Shivaji is the costliest film to date in Indian film history. It is starred by
Rajinikanth, the costliest Asian hero, directed by Shankar, costliest Indian director, music by A.R
Rehman, an internationally acclaimed musician and produced by A.V.M., a 50 year old reputed
production house in Tamil Nadu.
The film was being made for the past one year with meticulous planning and execution, which is the
hallmark of director Shankar. Rajinikanth acts in maximum of one film a year and considering the
success of previous Rajini film, Chandramukhi, which grossed more than Rs. 150 crores (RM 120 Mil)
internationally, this film is expected to cross more than Rs.200 crores (Rm 160 Mil) across the world.
