MULTIPLE DRIVERS SCORE WEEKEND SWEEP AT 61 KARTWAY FOR CENTRAL STATES

CHALLENGE

Track records broken at renovated Iowa circuit as championship battles continue to heat
up

DELMAR, IA (August 9, 2009) – Records were set throughout the weekend with the visit of the
Superkarts! USA regional program AMB i.t. Central States Challenge (SCSC) to the newly
revamped 61 Kartway. The fifth round of the six event series was the program to visit the Delmar,
Iowa circuit following a number of renovations to the 6/10-mile course with the racers returning
the favor with new track records and exciting wheel to wheel action. Though the racing was close,
a number of competitors earned weekend sweeps as the chase for the class championships
nears the end.

The TaG Junior group was one of the largest on the weekend (nine) and one of the few to not
have one driver dominate the division. Greg Gerst set the pace in qualifying as he edged Kevin
Donahue by just 0.097-seconds, however, an engine issue put him on the sidelines for the
Prefinal. Richy Yates was able to take advantage of Gerst’s absence to lead all six laps of the
Prefinal ahead of Angela Donahue and Kevin. Yates added eight more laps in the lead of the
Final to score his first series feature victory. Angela Donahue was second as she edged Gerst -
who was able to work himself forward from last. Lukas Johnson continues to dominate the S5
Junior field, scoring his third straight feature victory while recording a new track record in the
process. Kaylee Granberg and Kevin Donahue tried to keep it close but both were no match for
Johnson in the Final.

Matt Zeis was among the weekend ‘sweepers’ as he looks to knock off current point leader Derek
Crockett. Zeis set the fastest lap in qualifying by more than sixth-tenths over Crockett. In the
Prefinal, Crockett held the advantage off the line but Zeis regained the spot just two laps in to
take the win. The feature was a near duplicate with Crockett quick off the line once again but
holding on to the lead until lap three with Zeis pulling out to a three-second victory with Chris
Thomasson completing the podium. Jack Kloeber and Rick Freund kept it close in the S4 division
all day however, in the end it was Kloeber taking top honors each time on track. Kloeber held the
advantage in qualifying by just two tenths over Freund and led all six laps of the Prefinal. Freund
struck early in the Final, leading the first three laps until Kloeber regained the spot and led the
remaining 11 laps for his second win of the season.

The TaG Masters category had its biggest turnout of the season as seven drivers challenged the
new 61 Kartway circuit. Championship leader Brit Phillips extended his lead with the weekend
sweep. Leading all the green flag laps on Sunday, Phillips edged G1 winner Al Cram for the
victory by just a scant two-tenths with Cram posting the fast lap of the feature. Championship
chaser Jim Donahue was a solid third in Delmar. Jacob Sekey returned to the Central States
Challenge program to steal another TaG Senior feature win. After out-qualifying point leader
Derek Crockett by six-tenths, Sekey went on to outrun the entire field by leading all 18 laps of the
Prefinal and Final. After troubles in the Prefinal, Crockett fought back to finish second in the Final
over SCSC newcomer Synjun Bauer. Crockett however had his A-game in the S1 division,
sweeping the weekend to put himself back in championship contention as he out-paced point
leader Kyle Gnau and Carly Mandarino.

Cole Hannah helped his position in the championship chase with his first series victory of the
season in TaG Cadet. Sweeping the weekend’s action, Hannah edged point leader Kyle Donahue
for the feature win with Austin Mayton completing the podium. Others scoring wins on the
weekend included Jacob Winslow in the Kid Kart division, Kamryn Sloan in Yamaha Rookie, and
Dave Timmerman in the local option Clone class that attracted nine drivers participating.

The series now turns to the season finale, set for the temporary circuit outside the Kansas
Speedway - operated by BP Motorsports Group - in Kansas City on the August 29-30 weekend.
With the series counting the best four of six results for each driver, the championships are
certainly undecided until the final laps over the final weekend of August. To pre register for the
event or to become part of the SKUSA Central States Challenge, visit
www.centralstateschallenge.com The series would like to thank the following sponsors for their
support in 2009; AMB i.t., MG Tires, Car-Car Motorsports, Crockett’s Mobile Car Wash, Digatron,
Nado Alley Printing, PG Racing, Russell Karting, and Unique Heating and Cooling.
