Mrs. Lubys Class Metric Olympics happens Monday morning in the gym from 10:15 11:00 AM for TeamLuby. The children be be throwing javelins (straws), shot puts (cotton balls), and taking part in other Olympic-style activities, estimating, and measuring their distances! We could use 4-5 parent volunteers for this endeavor! Happy Thanksgiving/Happy Hannukah Scootpad! The children have begun using this reading comprehension and Math skills website at home. Many used it independently in class on Friday with success. Please let me know of any concerns. On Friday, the children were introduced to Coats for Kids. A letter will be in Monday folders. The children are encouraged to do chores or activities beyond home expectations to earn a few dollars for our classroom to purchase a winter coat and accessories for Josepf, a 10-year old boy in the Worcester area.

Language Arts Literature group reading is due Tuesday this week. Our group discussions involving protagonists, antagonists, climax, rising and falling actions were very enlightening last session! The children were able to give text evidence as to why some characters were more important than others and what events were the turning points! We also have Thanksgiving readers theatre plays and Daily 3 activities. Some children will be taking DRAs this week.
Writing
With this short week, we will be writing Thanksgiving stories. Our pen pal letters will be completed and sent off on Monday to Sherwood!
Math Metric Olympics is scheduled for Monday morning. The children will participate in Olympic-style events, then estimate and measure their results! We have begun Unit 4 using big numbers, estimating and long multiplication strategies. We will review lattice and partial products before heading into traditional algorithm multiplication. Social Studies This short week we will share our family immigration histories as best as we can since many of us have limited knowledge of our ancestors. We will also map them out on a huge world map to get a visual of our past! Science - from the desk of Mrs. Liporto During our short week we will be reviewing what weve learned about the rock cycle and soil. After Thanksgiving break week we will begin looking at the concept of work and simple machines. We'll being with a quick overview of all six simple machines and then being doing experiments on each individual machine over the next few weeks.
