Locate the developer roller drive
gear on the right side. Position the
cartridge to view the drive gear and
axle. (see photo 5)
Turn the drive gear clock-wise for
approximately a ¼ rotation. The gear
will clear the locking tabs and can be
removed. (see photo 6)

Locate the right side handle and
remove the screw. Turn handle
clock-wise for approximately a ¼
rotation and remove the handle. (see
photo 7)

Locate the left side handle and remove the
two screws. Remove the handle by sliding
the contact out of its slot. (see photo 8)

Remove the developer roller from the car-
tridge. Wipe excess toner from the roller and
set aside for more cleaning. (see photo 9)

Locate the doctor blade and remove the two
Torx® screws on the far left and right sides.
Remove the two phillips head screws from
the middle of the bar. (see photo 10)
Lift doctor blade out of position and set
aside for cleaning. Remove the two mount-
ing screw inserts. (see photo 11)
Step 7
Clean toner tank area using a vacuum or
dry, compressed air.

Clean doctor blade with cotton pad and
anhydrous isopropyl alcohol. Use a solid
surface to support the doctor blade surface
while cleaning.
Step 9
Clean the developer roller using a soft cloth
and distilled or reverse osmosis water. Use
drill motor if toner does not remove easily
from developer roller surface. Set developer
roller aside to air dry.

Fill toner tank with new toner using the
opening above the supply roller.
Step 11
Clean developer roller seals and recovery
blade using a cotton swab.

Install developer roller mounting screw
inserts. (see photo 12)

Install doctor blade using the two Torx®
screws and the two phillips screws with flat
washers. Hold the doctor blade flush
against the alignment posts while installing
the two Torx® screws. (see photo 13)
Step 18
Install supply roller drive gear. Insert
the flat washer and the retaining clip.
(see photo 18) Ensure the retaining
clip is secure against the flat washer
and drive shaft. (see photo 19)

Install the developer roller into the toner
unit. (see photo 14)

Install the left side handle and contact.
Install two phillips screws, the longer screw
installs below the doctor blade screw insert.
(see photo 15)

Install the right side handle. Insert with han-
dle pointed up and rotate ¼ turn counter
clockwise to latch into position. Install
phillips screw. (see photo 16)
Step 19
Locate the drive gear cover on the
right side. Locate the three phillips
screws holding the drive gear cover.
Remove screws and cover. The car-
tridge chip is located under the cover.
Remove and replace chip. Reinstall
drive gear cover. (see photo 20)
NOTE: When reinstalling the drive
gear cover, properly align the two
chip contact surfaces with the two
contact strips on the cartridge.

Install the developer roller drive gear by
turning the gear counter clock-wise for
approximately a ¼ rotation. The gear will
clear the locking tabs on the gear hub and
lock into position. (see photo 17)

Remanufacturing the Lexmark® C52X/C53X™

The Lexmark® C52X™ was introduced in the spring of 2005 and
the C53X™ followed in the fall of 2006. The C52X™ prints up to 20
ppm with a first page out in less than 13 seconds. The C53X™
prints up to 24 ppm black and 22 ppm color with a first page out
under 11 seconds. The cartridges for both are a toner unit with a
separate OPC design. Rated page yield range extends from 1500
pages for all colors up to 8000 pages for black and 7000 pages for
colors.
