No-till Planter Clinic


Paul Jasa, Extension Engineer with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, develops and conducts educational programs related to crop production that improve profitability, build soil health, and reduce risks to the environment. He received both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Nebraska and has been working with planting equipment and tillage system evaluation at the University since 1978.

Your turn to ask what works & what not to do with With Paul's experiences gained from research and Extension activities, he has become one of the best your no-till planter.

HAL BROWN TY BROWN Hal, a fifth generation farmer, and his son, Ty, sixth generation, farm the same ground in Ross Township, Clinton County that was owned and farmed by their ancestor Solomon Brown beginning in 1864. In 1981, the farm was incorporated and became Windy Lane Farms. Tillage practices on the farm began with the plow, then the chisel plow, to ridge till and now to vertical tillage or lo-till. In an effort to build more organic matter and soil tilth with diverse soil biology, cover crops are currently being expanded into our corn and soybean rotation.

Rodney is a partner with his cousins, Ken and Roy in Rulon Enterprises, a family farm partnership in Arcadia, Indiana, which strives to continue a seven-generation tradition of sustainable and environmentally responsible farming. The farm was originally homesteaded in 1869.. Rulon Enterprises has been recognized with numerous honors including the No-Till Innovator Award, regional and national Conservation Legacy Award, and they served as hosts for the CTIC Conservation in Action Tour in 2009. Rodney Rulon received his bachelors and masters degrees from Purdue University in Agricultural Systems Management using the degree as the farms technology and resource manager. Rulon works very hard on their farm and as the chairman for the Hamilton County SWCD to promote the benefits and adoption of no-till and cover crops throughout Indiana.
