TheAlbanyCountySheriffsOfficeisproudtoannouncethegraduationofK9Moefromthe 20weekNewYorkStatePoliceAcademyK9SchoolheldinCooperstownNY. TheK9hasbeennamedMoeinhonorofretiredSr.InvestigatorMaureenMcGuireHonikel. Maureen was known to most by her nickname, Moe. She began her extensive career with the Albany County Sheriffs Office in the late 1970s. She served as a Deputy Sheriff, Sergeant, Investigator and Senior Investigator. Sr. Investigator Honikel came from a large family of law enforcement officers. She was highly respected by her peers in Federal, State and local law enforcement communities and was extremely dedicated officer. Sr. Investigator Maureen McGuire HonikeldiedinNovember2011frombraincancer. K9 Moe has been trained specifically in explosive detection and tracking. Moe and his handler will be assigned to the Sheriffs Headquarters were in addition to patrol work he will be tasked withchecking allCounty owned buildings as well as being made available forarea agencies to callon.
