Men and women are engaged in a performance of gender throughout their lives based on socially constructed and constantly revised definitions of what it means to demonstrate masculinity or femininity in a given context . Furthermore, male in the nursing profession represent one interesting example that demonstrates the profound influence gender performance can have on men's choice of profession, their work practices, and their career paths. Numerous researches say that males are those people who first do the nursing care and that marginization of male from doing nursing care starts when Florence

Nightingale assumes the responsibility of care to female only. According to history, nursing profession first emerged as a job for male persons but was dominated by the female person and then claim as their profession. But Male or female, nurses receive the same basic education and training. Its just that simple. Just because a nurse is a male does not make him any better (or worse) when providing overall care to the patient. The study aimed to determine the performance of male nurses in selected hospitals in Batangas province. Specifically, the study sought to answer the questionnaires regarding the assessment on the performance of male nurse in Batangas province and later on proposed a professional development program for nurses. In this study the researchers used a qualitative method to obtain a holistic picture of what goes on in a particular situation or settings. The subject of the study were 50 respondents by using a random sampling in the patients who are currently receiving nursing care from a male nurse in selected hospitals in Batangas province. The instrument used was questionnaire or survey form which were distributed and answered by the patients who are currently receiving nursing care from a male nurse at selected hospitals in Batangas province. The questionnaire has two parts. The first part is the demographic profile of the respondents. The second part is the overall performance of a male nurse. The gathered data were presented in tabular form, analyzed and interpreted through the use of the different statistical techniques and procedures.

From the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn, majority of the respondents were twenty six to thirty three years old, females, Roman Catholic, earning between five thousand to ten thousand each month, admitted at Public or Government hospital. The assessment of the performance of male nurses shows that the extent of performance of male nurses as a caring person is excellent, the extent of performance of male nurses as an information provider is very good and the extent of performance of male nurses as a competent and skilled healthcare provider is very good. There is a significant difference on the performance of the respondents in three variables mentioned
