Recommendation(s): Receive and f ile. Executive Summary: The City Council adopted Resolution No. 2013-57, on November 5, which

signifies the beginning of the election process in the City of Carmel-bythe-Sea. The adoption of this Resolution triggers certain actions and activities for the Office of the City Clerk: among these activities include: 1) preparing nomination packets; 2) preparing notice of election to be publ ished in the local paper; 3} ensuring legal compliance with the provisions of the California Elections Code pertaining to the conduct of municipa l elections etc; and 4) ensuring compliance with Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) filing requirements.
Analysis/Discussion: In an effort to keep the City Council informed about this election, the

Office of the City Clerk will provide periodic updates to the council as necessary. Of notable mention as shown on Exhibit "A" attached are two upcoming dates: December 2- 16 Elections Official to publ ish Notice of ElectionCandidates December 16- January 101 2014 Filing period for Nomination Papers and Candidate's Statements. (Note : this is the time when

those interested in running for City Council Office or running for Mayor can pick up the paper work and file with the City Clerk)
