    As global capitalism continues to spread its influence through various methods and tactics, there are growing protests against it. People’s movements are looking for ways to delink themselves from the iron fists of global capitalism. An alternative system is much sought for. Breaking away from the global capitalist system and moving towards the alternative system also has tremendous challenges confronting the people around the world in the courageous fight against the onslaught of capitalism. Malaysia is also at its crossroads. We witnessed the rise of people’s power prior to the GE13, however the results of the GE13 were not as expected. The recent neoliberal attacks on the people by the current government with the GST and subsidy rationalization also show the need for an alternative model. Thus, it is timely for us to bring together socialists of different currents, social activists and progressive thinkers to discuss and debate issues concerned of the left, socialists and social movements in the world today. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Delinking From Global Capitalism’.
