October August 5, 2013 Sigma Sigma Sigma Student Organization Northwest Missouri State University 800 College Drive Maryville, Missouri 64468 Dear Ladies of Sigma Sigma Sigma: As most of you are eagerly anticipating the upcoming school year, the American Cancer Society has even more exciting news to bring you. It is almost time for the Relay For Life event in Nodaway County! Since its debut in 1985, this event has become a huge success and we are hoping your organization would like to contribute to its growth. What started out as one mans passion has now turned in to an event present in 5,000 communities in the United States. The event also takes place in 20 other countries. The event includes participation from 3.5 million people in the US. The event is roughly a 12 hour walk that will take place on September 11, 2011 at Beal Park in Maryville beginning at 6:00 p.m. and concluding at 6:00 a.m. on September 12. Your organization would be in charge of getting together a team of 12-15 people, along with a team captain. The team captain typically organizes fundraisers and completes the walking schedule. For each member participating, the cost is $10-15, but fortunately you can find local businesses to sponsor your team and cover the costs. If your chapter decides that you all would like to be a part of this wonderful experience, please do not hesitate another moment. An opportunity like this gives communities a chance to come together and celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember those who have succumbed to the disease, and fight back against the horrible disease which affects so many each year. Online forms can easily be completed with a credit card and are accessible right now for your convenience. If for some reason your chapter is unable to participate, donations are always welcome as well. Since Relay For Life is hosted by the American Cancer Society which is a 501(C)3 organization, gifts are tax exempt by law.
