FESTIVE BEAUTY
Three tried-and-tested treats to help you prepare for a season of celebration

THE HAIRCUT
A visit to any Sean Hanna hair salon is an experience in itself the shampoo station is something out of the space age. You wouldnt think rainbow light hoods with inbuilt speakers would be relaxing, but blimey, arent they just. I digress, so down to business: the haircut. If your hair is shoulder length (or longer) and youre looking for a volume boost, look no further than the Connexion Cut. A reverse take on the layered cut, it styles the hair shorter around the crown, keeping the layers at the front longer, which gives a cascading effect. I give this daunting cut a try and am seriously impressed with the results. My hair falls in soft layers that give me volume without frizz, and it even corrected my problem bangs. The look can be as high or low maintenance as you like. Those harbouring apprehensions should ask for Lucie, who did a reassuringly excellent job.

THE MANICURE
The newest addition to the Sheen Lane storefronts is family-run salon Emily Victoria, owned by (and named after) its main therapist Emily. I visited to test-drive the Shellac Glittery Manicure and walked away with neat, oval nails bearing longwearing polish in a twinkly (yet somehow still subtle) shade of bronze, perfect for putting the nishing touch on that Christmas-party look. The salon, however, offers a lot more than just pampering for your pinkies; Emily is an expert in all things facial and the salon offers a range of treatments, including facial peels, for more in-depth party preparation.

Kristina Gasperas has studied makeup artistry and fashion styling at prestigious institutions all over Europe and the UK. She is most famous for her bridal makeras Kristina Gaspe up (Kristina is the 2013 Wedding Awards National Winner), but she also does occasion make-up, as well as tutorials. Who better then, to help me with the nal treat on my Christmas list a festive party makeover.

arrive at Paris Moses salon (Kristinas new spot in Richmond) extremely nervous because Im about to have my photograph taken. Without makeup. Fortunately, photographer Kristida Stalionyte is encouraging and professional, and my before shots dont ll me with the fear I expect. Instead, I put my best face forward (so to speak) and prepare to be transformed. Kristina begins with eye makeup. Were trying out two looks today: Bronze Glitter and Smokey Black (as Ive dubbed them). When using darker eye shadow colours, Kristina tells me, she prefers to do eye makeup rst, so any powder that falls onto my cheeks can be easily covered. I dont normally wear foundation
Before

as I nd it quite heavy on my skin, but Kristina uses Chantecailles Future Skin foundation and then its St Bartz bronzer, which actually feels very light and subtle. To accentuate the metallic nish of my eye makeup (Bobbi Brown long wear cream shadow in antique gold), Kristina nishes our rst look with a very bright lipstick (Lipstick Deluxe prohibition in berry red) which is outside my usual lip colour range but once its applied, I absolutely love it. Denitely putting that on my Christmas list. After a nerve-wracking photo session (for a modelling novice like myself), I return to the hotseat for round two: Smokey Black. Kristina adds Bourjois intense eye shadow extrait 06 and Collection Glam crystals dazzling gel liner in black (which give my eyes a real twinkle) as well as several individual false lashes (well, it wouldnt be a party look otherwise, would it?) before adding the nal touch: Shu Uemura Rouge unlimited lipstick (shade 315) a subtle nude colour which wont draw attention away from the amazing things Kristina

has done to my eyes. Feeling more condent (having now done this once already), I head off with Kristida for the second part of the shoot. She shows me a few previews of the images shes taken and frankly, Im gobsmacked. This is one talented team. My verdict? If you want a dazzling look for your Christmas or New Years party this year, Kristinas your girl. Better still, if youd like to be able to recreate the looks yourself, shes willing to share her knowledge in a series of private tutorials open to novices and wannabe-professionals alike. Count me in. n

To launch her partnership with Paris Moses Kristina will be hosting a party at the salon on 10 December at 7.30pm, where there will be live hair and makeup demonstrations and prizes to be won.
