At DMM we are a highly developed and established manufacturer of fall protection and mountaineering equipment. We have a production facility of 25,000sqm that contains state of the art machinery ranging from hot forging to the latest CNC Technology. Our design facility uses SolidWorks as a platform and is highly experienced in 3D machining. Every safety critical operation is carried out in our factory. This gives you the condence in purchasing a product that has followed a strict quality control procedure from the initial design and development stage through to nal production and delivery. CUSTOM DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE

This has become an integral part of our business that utilises our designers, engineers and tooling specialists. We are very happy to work with partners to produce bespoke products. In fact over 30% of our range is made up of such products as so many of our customers appreciate the added value this unique and comprehensive service brings to their business. This service is available to all of our customers and we would welcome the opportunity to discuss your special requirements in greater detail with you.
STATISTICAL PROCESS CONTROL

The statistical process control system that we have implemented over the years of experience, enables us to have absolute control over each individual stage of the production process. Every machine operator carries out regular, routine checks and measurements to ensure that their operation stays within its dened tolerance levels.
DMM ACCREDITATION
All of DMMs products are accredited for use in up to four areas and can be NATO Codied or ANSI Certied. We have developed a set of icons for you to easily identify which product carries the relevant accreditations. QUALITY POLICY STATEMENT
Very often we are asked to summarise what makes DMM stand out from its competitors. Over the years we have invested heavily in our products to consistently meet and exceed all quality standards, actual or perceived. Our commitment is summarized in the Quality Policy and Mission Statements.
QUALITY POLICY STATEMENT

1. All employees, contractors and suppliers at DMM are reminded of the special nature of the Companys output, where our customers often rely upon our products in truly life or death situations. This is reected in our Mission Statement: Together, each one of us will make a safer, better product for our customers 2. DMM recognises that to stay ahead of its global competition it must continuously improve the quality of its nished products and service. The Companys Corporate Plan contains the Quality Strategies that enable us to achieve this objective. 3. DMMs Quality System is designed to ensure that all areas of the Companys operations are maintained to give a consistent standard of nished product and customer service. This output must meet Customer Specications and all relevant National and International Standards. 4. The Quality System is described in the Quality Assurance Manual and complies with the requirements of Quality Management System Standard ISO 9001:2000. A copy of this standard and the Companys Quality Assurance Manual can be seen by contacting the Quality Office at DMM. 5. It is vitally important that all DMM staff understands the Quality Objectives of all tasks they are given. If in doubt they are always encouraged to ask for guidance. All employees can make a real contribution to maintaining and improving the Quality of DMMs products and processes and the service it gives to its customers. 6. The responsibility for the operation of the Quality System rests with the Group Quality Assurance Manager, Mr Bill Cannock. 7. The future success of the Company depends on all employees working together to implement, improve and maintain the Quality Objectives of the Company.

QUALITY ASSURANCE, AWARDS AND STANDARDS

Quality Assurance isn't so much a process as a way of life within the company. From the very outset we have been acutely aware of the need to set the highest standards in the design, production and manufacture of our products. Not only are many of our staff climbers and end users of our products (and therefore fully aware of the need for vigilance in the manufacture of our products) but all our workforce are regularly reminded and understand the importance of the job they carry out. We provide our operators with the training and resources required to enable them to carry out their own inspection, in the event of problems or questions our Quality Inspectors are on hand to assist. Prevention is better than a cure : we use Statistical Quality Control (SQC) tools such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and 3 Sigma to monitor trends in processes so that we can take the appropriate corrective and preventative action to avoid errors occurring. Since all safety critical processes are carried out on site, we are in the enviable position of having complete control over our processes. DMM are ISO9001 accredited, but we do go over and above the requirements of this important international standard in many areas in order to assure product integrity and customer service. Batch production means that components stay together throughout the manufacturing process from the moment the raw material is issued from the stores to the moment they pass through to nal inspection. This ensures complete traceability from the purchase order for the raw material used through to when the product goes into our nished product stores.

QualitY Management SYstem
CE Marking and Product Conformance

The CE marking process is known as Type Examination and is an important supplement to our Quality Management System. In line with the requirements of European Union Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Directive 89/686/EEC all products designed and manufactured by DMM which are classied as PPE are independently type examined and tested to the relevant European Standard for Mountaineering and Industrial Fall Arrest. Only after meeting the requirements of the PPE Directive and the relevant European Standard are we allowed to mark 0120CE (the CE mark) on our products. ISO 9001:2000 compliance and CE marking/product conformance are monitored by CEN (Committee for European normalization. Notied Body No. 0120 (SGS UK Ltd., Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset, UK). It is a legal requirement that we maintain our Quality Management System as part of the PPE Directive CE marking process.
The Quality Management System maintained by DMM is registered to ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System Requirements. The main aim of this system is reected in our Mission Statement: Together each one of us will make a better, safer product for our customers Our system has evolved and continues to evolve as a result of nearly 25 years of development, investment and improvement to all of our activities. Quality both actual and perceived is our number one objective reecting the fact that each and every day thousands of people around the world rely on DMM products to save their lives. Our system is audited by independent auditors at regular intervals to ensure continuing compliance to the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 and as part of our commitment to continuous improvement.
3-SIGMA TESTING
This is our system for setting and monitoring the strength ratings as marked on our products in line with the minimum requirements of the relevant European and other standards, the 3 Sigma Testing method. DMM were the rst company to use this Statistical Quality Control (SQC) technique. Using test data derived from destructive testing samples at the design stage, we can set the rated strength of the product. We then have a system of ongoing batch testing which monitors and ensures that the 3 Sigma Rated Strength is maintained and exceeded. Part of our philosophy at DMM is to continue to improve the breaking strength of our products in excess of the standards which may be required. We do this to lessen the chance of failure in situations and conditions which might not be reected in the standard, but which we know as climbers ourselves can cause product failure.
INVESTOR IN PEOPLE
DMM were the rst manufacturing company in Wales to be registered to the IIP standard (July 1992) and in December 2006 achieved recognition to the latest version of this important standard. This standard is people orientated and its main objectives are (a) to develop strategies to improve the performance of the organisation through its people (b) to ensure that the organisation takes action in order to improve its performance through its people and (c) to evaluate the impact of this investment in people on the performance of the organisation. IIP is more than just a training system, the IIP system is a key mechanism that helps us to target areas for improvement in all aspects of the business.
CARING FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT

One of our continuous goals is to reduce our environmental footprint both locally and globally. Our Environmental Policy has been recognised by the Welsh Assembly Government as being the best in Wales for any manufacturer. We are committed to: Maintaining 100% recycling of our product. Reducing our energy consumption. Reducing all emissions from our factory site. Increasing the recycling of production, administrative and distribution by-products. Make a positive contribution to sustainable development.

MANUFACTURING TECHNIQUES
HEAT TREATMENT Aluminium AlloY Components

All alloy components are heat treated in-house using our computer controlled air circulating furnaces which allows us perfect control of the alloy process, ensuring absolute consistency within each batch. Detailed records are kept of the total process including batch number, time and temperature.
Hot Forged
We regularly use the term hot forged as though everybody is fully conversant with what it actually encompasses, but it is a complicated and technical process. Hot forging means that the intricate shape of components are formed by impact or pressure. Very tight control is required to ensure that the components are worked at the correct temperature and minimum heating times are very important to ensure the perfect grain structure. Forging is a very important part of the process, as it enables us to ensure that the grain structure around any complicated shape has the correct ow. This gives our products maximum strength with the minimum weight. The forging process also allows the designer to build ergonomic forms within the component that may not be possible via other means of manufacture. Hot Forged components are always stronger.
HEAT TREATMENT Steel Components

All steel components are heat treated using sealed quench atmosphere controlled furnaces; giving precise hardness and tensile strength. This control allows us to ne-tune optimal mechanical properties of each component to match their application and strength requirement.
Computer Numerical Control (CNC)

Computer Numerical Control we use the most modern machine centres and sliding head blades to produce intricate shapes to close tolerances allowing us to create complex parts that move, slide or rotate. The use of this technology enables us to offer a comprehensive range of bespoke product solutions to our customers.

MARKINGS AND FINISHES
METAL FINISHES
Barrelling involves the product being placed in large vibrating barrels or tubs containing ceramic particles of various shapes. These particles remove all the rough or sharp edges on the product giving the silky smooth lines and feel that our products demonstrate. This is particularly important when textile elements are interconnected or running through metal components.
STANDARD MarkingS
Every DMM carabiner carries two distinct sets of markings. The rst set, along the at beam indicate the strengths of the product. The second set is found on the spine of the carabiner in the form of a unique serial number. The number allows every single item to be individually traced back to its original manufacture date and order of production.

Anodising of aluminium BS EN12373:2001 Class 10 E1 Sealed

Anodising is an electrolytic process that involves the controlled deposition of a lm of hard aluminium oxide. This lm, as well as being very hard is also corrosion resistant. Our anodised products withstand the corrosion test as required in EN362:2004. As well as offering this protection the anodised nished is available in a range of colours.

Electro Plating of Steel EN ISO2081:2008Fe/Zn5C

Electro Plating is the nish we use on our steel products, this is also an electrolytic process similar to that described above but in this case a layer of Zinc is deposited on the steel. A passivation coat is than applied which provides the gold colour as can be seen on our products. This nish also meets the corrosion test as required in EN362:2004.
SPECIAL FINISHES
We can offer a range of special nishes including epoxy powder coating, polyurethane dip coating and PVC dip coating in various colours.

Our batch production system and traceability assures that all products our fully traceable to the materials used and the supplier of that material. This includes material procurement, certication, goods inwards inspection and issue to the shop oor for production.

Standard range of locking mechanisms

We produce ve different types of gate locking mechanisms which are available on both steel and aluminium carabiners. We use 7075 T6 Alloy for our aluminium carabiners to give optimum push in strength.
SCREWGATE
1. UNSCREW This, the original and classic double-action gate mechanism, is suitable for a multitude of attachment situations. DMM screwgate barrels feature a new screw knurled prole to assist gripping in wet or icy conditions. We have recently increased the thickness of the gate and thimble. To improve the thimble/ latch overlap, giving greater security. In addition, and most importantly, it increases the minor axis (cross gate) strength signicantly. 2. OPEN

KWIKLOCK AND KWIKLOCK ANSI

The Kwiklock automatic locking system is the fastest gate locking mechanism to operate. It also provides a convenient solution to eliminating the chance that the gate will accidentally be left unlocked. DMM Kwiklock barrels are available in aluminium and steel. ANSI All products listed ending with ANSI meet and exceed the requirements of the new ANSI standard which were implemented on 15th October 2007. ANSI Z359.1(07) These high strength mechanisms are available in both Kwiklock and Locksafe on styles of aluminium ANSI and steel ANSI carabiners.

Captive bar
Most carabiners can be provided with the captive bar option for EN362:2004/T use. This ensures directional orientation and loading of the carabiner along its major axis where required.
CAPTIVE BAR
IMPORTANT: Captive bars are not load bearing and should never be used to attach load bearing elements of the system.

Never attempt to alter or modify your carabiners by cutting, ling etc., in an attempt to prolong its working life or for any other reason. In doing so you immediately invalidate its guarantee whilst putting yourself in potential danger. Additional information is also provided with each product. ALUMINIUM CARABINERS
Aluminium carabiners are the core of DMMs production, hot forging facilities allow us to produce products that are light, strong and ergonomic. The carabiners enable the user to work safely and with condence in difficult and stressful environments. Using aluminum as an alternative to steel will give the user a dramatic weight saving which in turn will enable them to work in a more comfortable and efficient manner.

Arborist equipment has become more specialised and technical and DMM are at the forefront of development with our collaboration with Treemagineers. Treemagineers are three practicing arborists, Mark Bridge, Bernd Strasser and Chris Cowell. They have an extensive development program on devices that manage friction and understand the need for manufacturers to take on board the precise requirements of the end user, so that new designs deliver the perfect solution.
Treemagineers
Treemagineers moved into product development in 2004 because they could see improvements were necessary. With joint objectives of improving safety and efficiency in professional tree care, their rst offerings to the tree climbing audience were launched in 2006: the treeMOTION harness and Hitch Climber pulley. Manufactured by strategic partners Teufelberger in Austria and DMM in Wales, these bespoke tree care products incorporate new concepts, advanced manufacturing techniques and high performance materials. Treemagineers continue to contribute to the coordinated tree care product ranges of DMM and Teufelberger within an atmosphere of innovation and safety awareness. In their day to day work, Treemagineers carry out a wide range of tree related jobs, for example, the management of private and municipal tree populations, seed collection from notable trees, foliage sampling for research purposes, specialist courses for tree climbers, native woodland management, design and management of tree planting schemes and the development of industry guidance. They also play an important role in the development and validation of DMM products which seek to make the life of tree climbers safer and more efficient.
