He starts off as ruthless as his wife, only caring about the two of them and willing to kill Later on in the story, he begins to struggle with some internal conflicts and starts changing his perspective on some things (Ex. Baby Jacob and his mother, Rachel) Starts drinking more heavily

Losing her child is Serenas biggest conflict. This is something that she struggles with and cannot overcome. It causes her to seek revenge on young Rachel and her son. As determination is Serenas biggest, most outstanding, character trait, she will stop at nothing to find Pembertons illegitimate son Unjustifiable

Words that Serena whispers to Pemberton in the hospital. He doesnt really know how to take this, but Serena has already began to form her plan.

Rachel learns of Serenas plan to kill her and Jacob, and with the help of Sheriff McDowell leaves her home. She is seeking to move as far away as she can in order to protect her and the childs life as love and humbleness is her most outstanding character traits.

Conclusion
This book is well-written and contains some of the most vivid descriptions that help you to visualize the characters & scenery. The drama in the book actually portrays how humans face some of the most challenging situations in life. Greed is just one of the themes in this book and the moral of the story is Money isnt everything.

The ending is unbelievable and will have you wanting more!
