Professor Lloyd Manager, Food Technology Research Center Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Science Brigham Young

University Dear Dr. Lloyd, Please accept my application for the open positions in the food sensory laboratory, food microbiology laboratory, and food quality assurance laboratory beginning January 2014. Upon learning of the opportunity to participate in an undergraduate mentoring program made specifically for food science majors I grew very excited. The opportunity to participate in a laboratory similar to that I would encounter upon entering the food science workforce is a unique and humbling opportunity. As I seek to determine which aspect of food science will best suit my strengths I look forward to working in any of these laboratories. One of the things I pride myself on is my fast learning skills. I realize that a lot of the work that is done in labs is hands-on and I look forward to grasping and applying new concepts. I am very meticulous in my work and the idea of performing quality assurance tests really appeals to my thorough nature. I also have a reputation for being very organized and cleanly which could really facilitate the sanitation and record keeping aspects of these positions. I love being busy so the prospect of working with varied duties really appeals to my ability to multi-task and learn new things. Through my past work and leadership experience I have also learned a lot about creative problem solving and working with others which I consider to be my strongest asset in a laboratory setting. For example, when I was interning at an office this past summer the computers and printers would often break and my co-workers were dependent on me to fix them in a timely manner in order to allow their responsibilities to run smoothly. I am available for an interview at any time. If I havent heard from you in two weeks I will reach out to you in order to find out the status of my application. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Lauren Wallace
