Ignacio Rodes

A native of Alicante, Spain, Ignacio
Rodes has been the First Prize win-
ner of the prestigious ‘Andrés Segovia,’ ‘Francisco
Tárrega,’ and ‘José Ramirez’ guitar competitions.
Mr. Rodes has performed extensively throughout
Europe and South America, and will appear this
season as part of a major US tour. His St. Louis pro-
gram will include a special commemoration of the
music of the romantic guitarist/composer Francisco
Tarrega on the centennial of his death in 1909.

Susana Prieto of Spain and Alexis
Muzurakis of Greece made their
debut in 1999 at the International Guitar Festival
in Greece. Since then, they have won numerous
prizes in international competitions in Germany,
France and Italy. Their broad repertoire extends
from the baroque era to modern day, and includes
a selection of XIX century pieces played on period
instruments.
SPECIAL PERFORMANCES

Turkish-born guitarist Cem
Duruöz has received the high
praise of critics and performers alike for his “flaw-
less classical technique, depth of color ... and tight
rhythmic style” (American Record Guide/Music in
Concert). Mr. Duruöz has performed throughout
North and South America, Europe, and Asia,
delighting audiences everywhere with a diverse
program of both Turkish folk songs and traditional
classical pieces.

musicians in the world today" is
how one critic described the sensational American
guitarist Douglas Niedt. A St. Louis native, Douglas
gained instant fame at age seventeen upon winning
the Chet Atkins International Guitar Competition.
His programming includes music of Latin America
and American popular composers such as Ellington
and Brubeck.

Quartet

The Venere Lute Quartet, praised for their “infec-
tious verve” and “fine technical command,” will per-
form selections from the Netherlands and Belgium,
Renaissance works of composers such as Henry
Purcell and Michael Praetorius, and music in honor
of Galileo’s 400th birthday. The ensemble is com-
prised of lutenists Douglas Freundlich, Christopher
Morrongiello, Gail Gillispie, and Phillip Rukavina.
